Your Journey Home

We stayed on, couldn't leave without clapping the lads off.
I had my three young grandsons with me and was a bit worried about the tube back.
We were late enough to catch the queue for Wembley Central but I can't praise the behaviour of both sets of fans on the way back enough. Everybody seemed to be aware of the youngsters in the crowd and went out of their way to avoid squashing them and ensuring we weren't separated.
The fans we met were a credit to both clubs.

We left the stadium at 6 and had a 15 minute walk to our driveway parking. Traffic was bad all the way to the M3 , but roads improved time we got to Fleet where we fuelled up in Burger King.
We eventually got back to Cornwall just after midnight.
It was a very long day as we left at 6.30 and the car broke down at whiddon down. Managed eventual to get car going and limped back to Calstock and changed cars.
What a relief, at first I thought we was stuffed.
But the gods smiled on us and we arrived at our parking spot at 2 o/c.
Although the result wasn’t what we hoped for it was a marvellous day all the same.

Stayed to applaud the players as they did their lap around our half of the stadium. Went off to where we had the car parked, and having been up since 4:30am to get a 7am flight, fell asleep in the back. Woke up in time for some food at South Mimms and stayed with some relatives near Stansted before a 3:30am alarm on Monday morning to fly back to Madrid from Stansted at 6am. Wearing my SUFC jumper, got stopped by two different people at Stansted saying they'd watched the game and couldn't believe we didn't win. Landed at 9:30am in Madrid, back home to shower and change and in the office by 11am.

Sorry, this was meant to be a reply to @euroshrimper I forgot to click the reply button on his post.

Most, if not all, of us Shrimpers were feeling sorry for ourselves on Sunday evening and yesterday over the result of a football match, but your post puts things into perspective. It's very sad for the person who felt so burdened that they resorted to that action and I imagine devastating for their family and friends. A terrible thing for the train driver to experience and, of course, passengers like yourself. I hope you are able to put it out of your mind in due course but can understand how it has had an effect on you at the present time.

Traveled back to Scotland by train on Monday but very sadly just outside Newcastle someone jumped in front of our train and was killed.
This has really brought me back to earth with a bump having had an amazing day catching up with my two sons at Wembley.
So sad that in desperation someone feels that it's the only solution - way out for them. Cannot stop thinking about the person, family and train driver.
I'm so sorry, that's a horrible thing to have gone through. It's impossible to imagine not only the state of mind that person was in, but also how their family, the driver and the emergency services called will deal with it. So very sad.

Knew train situ would be a nightmare so planned all along to walk to North Wembley. Instead walked past Feed The Yak craft beer bar and it was almost empty so stayed there for about 4 pints in the end, held a post mortem with mates and felt much better. Was plain sailing to get home after that.

We were getting regular updates from others who joined the queue at Wembley Central having left the stadium when we did. If we hadn't stayed for the 4th pint we would have beaten them home...

Stayed until the end to clap the players off. Queued for ages at Wembley Central, but it wasn't a shock given the large attendance (considering so many of the coach tickets buyers never actually went by coach it was to be expected, I suppose). Picked up my car at Kenton station and drove home really swiftly

We went to a pub just past Wembley Central which after about an hour turned into an Oldham pub (we'd not checked beforehand). A couple of the party went to a local veg Indian, the queue for the tube looked a bit large so we got the bus to Sudbury Town on the Piccadilly line and back into London from there. McDonalds at Earls Court & bus home from there for me.

Walk back to Wembley Central, only queued for about 15 minutes. The lioness platform for Euston was rammed but as we were going to Watford Junction, we got straight on the train and were back in Watford about an hour after leaving the ground. And home by 10pm.

Walked to Wembley stadium, queued for about 20 minutes, into Marylebone, bakerloo to Baker Street and then got to Liverpool St just in time to jump on the 19.15 c2c ,home at 8.30.Train journey in both ways was no worse than a commute to london

We were very similar to Jai.
Went in Feed The Yak bottom of the stairs at Wembley. 2 lovely Craft Beers. One called iron bru.
We only stayed for two pints.
Walked to the Chiltern line station at Wembley.
No wait at all the train pulled in empty as we were walking down the stairs.
Got a seat straight to Marylebone.

Took us 25 minutes to get out of the car park (level 6) then another 2.5 hours back to deepest Sussex. Apple maps on the Car Play did save us 15 minutes on an 'alternative' route. We found the signage to the RED car park to be abysmal on the way in and it was only by a bit of luck we guessed the right way. What annoyed us on the way in was that we got to the entrance to the car park , but were held up for about 25 minutes before they let us in. I asked a copper to check what was going on. He did and came back and said that Wembley were waiting for the Oldham team coach! Why they couldn't keep letting cars in until their coach got there was not explained. Overall the journey was what we planned for, about 3 hours each way. On a normal take it would have taken 1 hour 40 mins. At 70, that will be my last drive there.

Got back to Wickford about half 9, was in that huge queue at Wembley Stadium station. Watched a few Oldham go past us, getting a bit confrontational. But i did think if we had won. we'd probably be quite insufferable to others,
On the train back from Liv St, a few boys in front of us shouting at each other how many trophies their teams had won, West Ham and Spurs, when one of them said "well yeah but i bet you aint got the ****in Fairs trophy" i nearly battered the lot of them. Proper plastics on my train, i was not in the mood for their ****.
I mean i say battered, but i'll admit the wife held me back. ;)

Dunno what all the fuss was about TFL, no worse than the queues at Wembley normally. Mugs.

Agree about the signs for the red parking going. After the one to leave the A406 I only saw one other sign. Sat nav got me to it rather than the signs but seemed to take me the long route.
Was at boxpark for a few hours afterwards so from red parking back to billericay was nice and quick but avoided the A406 and took the A1.

We did pretty well to get back to Chalkwell by 930 when we didn’t actually get onto the train until 720 from Wembley Central. We didn’t rush out the ground, we waited until the players came around to clap them off and then the nearest ladies toilets were shut, then bumped into a few pals outside and made the slow walk to the station. Got lucky with the connections. Thought both sets of fans were superb, no silliness at any point and everyone very civil which was a welcome surprise! It was never gunna be a quick journey and was still pretty shell shocked by us managing to **** it all up in the last 10 mins.

Rekjavik to Portland - 8 quality hours in first class, Sadly, I'm now teetotal so couldn't really exploit that. Traffic on I5 to Eugene not bad at all. Got home, and "worked" remotely, mainly angry posting about losing. Will definitely have to go to Iceland again, but flying direct from Seattle next time I come back to blighty. Portland airport staff are barely sentient.
