Your first car!

Am now looking to buy my first car as I have used my parents for a few years now but as I am starting a new job this summer I felt the time was right to get a car (plus my job is six miles from the nearest train station!!). Anyway, it got me thinking that whatever car I get it has to be nice as I will always remember it! So what was your first car and why will you remember it...?

Oh and btw if anyone can recommend a second hand car for about £2500 that would be helpful! :D

my first car was a blue escort estate (old shape) reg GLT 475 N.I loved that car it always smelt of cheap plastic.had a crappy old tape deck in it and a ****ty clutch.I raced it once over the 1/4 mile on Canvey against my mate Matt Disney's hilman imp. That was a close run thing with the imp doing me on the line.

Andrew something like a fiesta would do nice little run around cheap to run and parts are ver common.

First car was a Morris Minor Traveller (1966) in Almond Green.

Followed by :-
Mk1 Escort (1972)
Mini 1000 (with a 1300cc morris engine) 1968
Mk2 Cortina 1600E (superb car at the time for an 18yr old)
Mk2 Escort 1600GT (early Mexico)
Mk2 JPS Capri
Escort XR3
Mk4 Cortina 1.6 GL
Mk3 Capri 2.0S
Mk3 Capri 2.8i (one of the last ever made and my first brand new car ever)
Mk2 Cavalier SXi
Orion Ghia 1.6i
Mk3 Cavalier 2.0 GLi
Fiesta Xr2 (immense fun to drive)
Astra SXi
Golf GTI 16v (wicked)
Passat TDi Sport
Avensis D-4D
And now got a Zafira Design 1.9CDTI (150 bhp version)

Sorry - got a tad carried away there!!!

A 1972 Triumph 2000, bought in 1992 for a couple of hundred quid with only a few thousand miles on the clock. A great car - they really don't make them like that anymore.

Fiat Panda X reg (1981), good littlle car that got me to brighton and back for a blues game the day after i passed my test, wednesday 7th september 1988, a 1-0 league cup win at the goldstone ground with martin ling getting the winner (thanks sufc database).

My first car was a Ford Cortina Mk II, KOU 249F

It was one of the first MKII's, 4 door unlike the pic, and had a MKI style 1500 engine and a consul gearbox with the long "pudding stirrer" gear stick. Happy days!

I had a ****ty yellow mini. My overriding memories of it are:-

1. Cleaning it once and putting my hand through a rust patch.
2. Driving home from London along the A127 at 40mph because something was wrong and it wouldn't go any faster.
3. Parking somewhere in London only for a hose to burst and steam to come out from the bonnet, and having to be towed all the way back to Southend without actually doing whatever it was I had gone up to London to do.

Those were the days.

Mk II Ford Escort, 1300, red with black vinyl roof

proper Essex boy motor!

Being late to driving (I got a bike licence at 19 so I didn't really need a car) I have actually only owned two cars , A Maestro and a Renault 19 (the rest have belonged to my wife) and apart from a couple of years commuting to Chelmsford I have rarely used a car other than the odd drive at weekends when I drive to take the strain off the mrs who does 70 odd mile a day.

At 17 I could only afford one of these

I then got a suzuki GT 125

Oh dear - Mini Clubman - four fog lamps on the front, 2 in the rear linked up to the brake lights and ICE worth more than the car itself. :p

Saturday nights down the seafront thinking I was cool with everyone else probably thinking 'who's that tosser ?' (no comments please :D )

Mark 5 Cortina 1.6 GL .. X reg (thats the X at the end not the beginning!)..
Totally gobsmacked by the fact that it had a dimmer switch for the dashboard light (the Sat Nav of its day) .. Handy if you locked the keys in it as you could open the door in less than 5 seconds with a coat hanger

I remember my first car very well, mostly because I'm still driving the piece of ****. A 1993 Nissan Sentra, I got it when I turned 16 (it was used, I didn't turn 16 until 2000). It has over 200K miles on it, but it still gets me around fairly well.

haha! it seems like every ones first cars and remembered fondly because they were either awful yet somehow great or because they really were great haha! ye TB i think a fiesta will do for me! Would be lovely to have something a little nicer (that TR 2000 looked lovely!) but i think i need something more practical and a lot more reliable!

The old Ford 'locks'. I'm sure they only had a couple of variations. At one stage when I had a Cortina, my sister had a Fiesta and my parents a Granada we could all unlock each others cars. The Granada key also started my Cortina :D

My list of cars includes:

Mini Clubman
Escort Mk1
Mk 3 Cortina
Mk 4 Cortina
Mk 5 Cortina
Orion (written off on the way to Gigg Lane Bury' 91)
Sierra Sapphire
Sierra Sapphire
Mondeo
Nissan Primera
Nissan Primera
Nissan Primera GT
Subara Impreza
Subaru Impreza Sti

I'm not a 40 year old boy racer honest :hilarious: :hilarious:
