Your favourite country

Agree with Shrimperman. I've been Dubai 2 times and will be there a third time in october. Lovely hotels and the people are the friendliest i have met. And an almost 0% crime rate

Oh Canada our home and native land
True patriot love
in all our sons command
with glowing hearts we see thee rise
the true north strong and free
from far and wide oh canada we stand on guard for thee
God keep our land glorious and free
oh canada we stand on guard for thee
oh canada we stand on guard for thee

Australia.

Went out there for a few weeks last year and thought it was great. I even learned to like their brand of 'football'...

One day I hope to emigrate there.

I've just found out that if you have more that FIVE living relatives, your application for emigration to Australia can be refused!!

I am an Englishman and wherever I end up in the world and for all it's faults it will always be home.

My wife is a New Zealander and my daughter is half Kiwi. New Zealand is beautiful and the people are the friendliest you could ever wish to meet.

Australia is almost definitely the country I will emigrate to, probably next year. The weather is amazing, the lifestyle as good as anywhere in the world, the opportunites are plentiful, the beer is ice cold and they are even catching on to (proper) football.

There are also loads of countries that I have visited that have all sorts of differing reasons that make them worth visiting - in fact I don't think I've been to anywhere in the world that I don't like in some way.

The US and England are without a doubt my two favorites. Hopefully sometime in the next couple of years I'll be able to move out to England, probably not permanently, but for 3 or 4 years.

Yes.

Does this count for the daily trivia challenge? I also know that it is called 'Marcha Real'.

Do I get two points?

I thought the words were -

"We're all off to Sunny Spain,
Y Viva Espana!"

You never mentioned that in the Spread last night !

I've been to Japan several times. Not my cup of tea but I know plenty of people that have settled out there, married locally raising families and adore the place. Very impressed with the bullet trains but could you live in a country where even the underground runs to a strict timetable ?

Japan happens to be the best place in the world that I've played golf.

I've been lucky to have been fairly well travelled with my (ex) job. Other than England the only other place I think I could be truly comfortable and settle down is Hong Kong. I must have been there at least seven times and never for less than 3 days and once for 2 weeks. I feel I know HK Island and Kowloon like the back of my hand having spent many happy hours on foot seeing the REAL HK way beyond the touristy bits. The sights, smells, living conditions etc are 'interesting' to say the least but they only add to the attraction of the place. A truly great place to raise and educate a family as well. I'd probably be in hospital for a liver transplant after six months though.

Having lived there for six months, I suppose I would have to say Canada. Part of that allure seems to be based on how similar they are over there to here. Where I was (West Coast) seems almost like a trade-off between England and the USA although no Canadian would ever admit it. I sometimes think that Canada is what England would be like if we weren't so crammed in.

Another one I've always liked is Holland and recently, Germany. All these all seem similar in terms of people and climate, though, to the UK but with other aspects that I like more.

I think if I was ever to emigrate, it would have to be somewhere very different to the UK as I think I'd gain little by moving somewhere similar. As soon as you stop experiencing new things from travel, it almost seems pointless.

Went to Germany last March to collect a BMW bike in Nuremberg. Plenty of snow still on the ground and bloody cold. I mentioned the chillyness of the place at the garage and got a typical German response. 'Thats why we wear coats' Not rude just logical. Love the place.

Places I would vist again tomorrow, given half a chance, New zealand, Scotland (but only the northern bit), Ireland (the southern bit) and Libya

As for emigrating, to be honest I would stuggle to move out of Essex let alone England, I would not move far from either my family or my Football team.

Honourable mentions for Singapore, Australia & Ireland.
Singapore is one of the few places that I've visited that I have no real desire to go back to. It must be the dullest country I've been to. Think Belgium but less interesting.

If it was a restaurant it would be McDonalds, all shiny, plastic, sanitised and safe for kids but basically bland.
It lacked the vibrancy, character and general chaos of everywhere else in Asia. Its Asia-lite.

The best thing IMO about Singapore is its proximity to Malaysia, a wonderfully interesting and exciting country. Of course this sort of thing is entirely subjective subject and there are a fair few people who will disagree with me on it!

Went to Italy last month for the first time, thought it was a really nice place wouldn't mind living there at all!!
