Yet Another Rumour

I can't see it happening personally. Barnard is a great player but he is not better than what Coventry have at the moment. If Macca was worth 200k (or whatever Millwall apparently offered for him) then Barnard would be worth 300k+, but due to his injury proness, this figure would be alot lower.

Got no idea if there's any legs in this rumour but I can see some sense in the theory. Don't forget how excited Spurs were at Barny's potential before he got injured. Scored bucket loads for their ressies & was starting to break into the 1st team squad. Spurs fans I know said we were really lucky to get him at the time.

He's now finally staying fit & once again, banging them in for fun playing for a under-confident L1 side. So given his record at Spurs and us, why wouldn't a CC side consider him worth a decent bid? And if the Coventry fans feel Fred's value is around the 2 to 3k mark (and can anyone seriously see him getting another club at CC level?) after after failing miserably there, surely Barny's value has got to be in the region of 500k.

Therefore, its not beyond the realms of fantasy that Coventry could throw Freddie plus around £300k our way in return for Barney, and everyone's a winner (sort of)..

Obviously all this would have to tie in with tomorrow's events but stranger things have happened..

I think you'll find, although it won't happen, if Fred came back he'd automatically bang em in!

Sorry but it would bother me. An in form Barney is currently our top goalscorer at the club, whereas Sir Freddy is very out form and lacking in confidence. I also cannot forget the way he seemingly went off the boil for us almost as soon as he scored "that" goal against Man U in the Carling Cup. I know he is an SUFC legend and I too would love to see him back one day but you can't argue with Barney's record this season and if he goes and Freddy doesn't step up to the plate then where the **** are our goals going to come from?!

OBD is in fact correct. Fred would destroy this league...again.

Even though Barny is in form, there is no way he is better than an if form Freddy, and i don't htink it'd take long for Eastwood to regain that form that made him a legend here.

looks like Coventry would welcome this!!

Like the comment by one of the posters along the lines of........"we should loan him out to a League One side for a month or two."......more fuel for the fire!
What do I think?.......Would do I think of all these rumours?........I think it is really starting to do my head in. Can I sue anyone for all the mental damage this is doing to me???

....who despite lacking in confidence would rip league one to pieces.

....whilst playing for the worst team in the league, yet still scoring 16 odd goals.

Personally Id rather have Eastwood over Barnard, our team totally lacks creativity and Eastwood creates his own chances.

If that were to happen and bearing in mind we cant afford anyone, let alone Eastwood, then Ill be over the moon even with a 10 point deduction!

To be fair J_M after we played Manure on 7/11/06 he scored 5 league goals, which in 6 months of a season isn't great.

Bearing in mind the quality of side he was playing for Id say that was a fair achievement.

Most of our strikers since have struggled to score that many in a full season in a lower league...

I don't get where a lot of you are coming from. Why is it automatic that Eastwood would come back and start scoring goals for fun?

Without doubt the player we had in our L1 winning side, and the start of the Championship season, would rip this league apart. But that's a long while ago now. Taking the rose tinted specs off, how do we KNOW he would come back and do the same again. Is he the same player still? Does he still have the same hunger and desire? Is it just a lack of confidence at the moment or is it something more deep rooted?

See I don't know about you lot, but I've not seen him play in a long while. I wouldn't like to say it's a certainty that he'd come back and do the same again.

Clearly, he might do. All I'm saying is that any potential swap for Barnard is a hell of a gamble to take based purely on someone's form from 2+ seasons back.

Given that Barnard is in no rush to re-sign and could go for free in 8 months I'd say any potential swap for Eastwood would be a great move. Bear in mind also that Coventry have played Freddy at left wing more than up top.

Sounds perfect to me - I've kept saying the problems Freddy's had have been down to the way he's being played. Come on, how many times have we played strikers as wingers and then moaned when they've not "performed"?

here's a scenario... and perhaps wishful thinking

we go into administration because we havent got the money nor will we until this supposed planning permission is granted. 16 days after administration we get the sainsburys money and the need to sell players and assets isnt needed. we go out of administration (i think?). We keep barnard til at least january and try and sign eastwood on loan as early as possible which isnt out of the realms of possibility given his lack of popularity at coventry. with eastwood and barnard upfront we'd be awesome. no?

Personally I think Barney will be sold off as soon as possible to make a bit of extra money.

I guess he is inlikely to sign a new deal in the summer so it would make financial sense to sell hom now and take some money rather than pay him for the next 8 months only for him to walk away for free in the summer.

Freddy spent all his time at Wolves and the majority of his first season at Cov playing up front. he might have had personal issues with McCarthy (he wouldn't be the first), however he had attitude issues with us too. Fully blaming both McCarthy and Coleman is ridiculous. He now plays on the left because he's quite creative, but he's only scored 4 goals in about 30 appearances UP FRONT!!

Quite simply he's a different player to what he was, he's lost his edge, is fearful to shoot and I'd argue doesn't like being a small fish in a big pond.

You can't fool all of the people all of the time... He's being played as a winger because he didn't cut it at that level as a striker.
