Yet another goal

Have a heart mate, Kightly wasn't good when he was here. It was only at Grays that he found his "inner footballer". What about all the good players Tilson's brought in? How can discarding one player who didn't meet requirements be the summarisation of Tilly's managerial career? Grow up!

So the fact he was 17 when he played for us and looked one of the best young prospects we had aquired in a while (fi you ever went to the cup games he played on). Ok so he was a bit on the small side but he was only 17. There was no need to get rid of him. send him out for a year or two on loan His "inner footballer", watch a loud of b***** , it sums it up really though that we did release a player with an "inner footballer" as you put it and sign the likes of harrold, paynter, foran, mitchell cole (maybe grays found his inner player when he played for them and then he just miraculously lost it when he signed for us) just to mention a few.

Coupled with that is the way we bring in some of the best youth from higher leagues and then never play them above the more "loved" players within the club.

every manager and club makes mistakes in bringing in players but not on this scale. whats the point of bringin in class players like barnard if you partner him with someone like revell (only 2 games i know but not promising)

Now lets all grow up about this because we are all fans that want this club to succeed. This has been a hard year for us and i know i moan about players as does everyone at some point but this comes down to one thing, we can stick up for the players as much as we want but down to the end of it if they arent good enough to play at this level let alone in the championship, (which most of them were signed for) then it is not there fault but the higher personel that bring them in.

to be fair there is one name that will some up tilsons decision making and poor judge of player

MICHAEL KIGHTLY

If you want to approach it that way then Harry Redknapp is a poor judge of player is he, for letting Eastwood go from west ham at such a young age. He let Eastwood go because at the time he was not good enough(still isn't but could be) for that squad at that time, but then he has built up some of the most promising and unknown players of our generation to make then into world class players.

Tilly isn't obviously anywhere near his standard but its the same view on things, letting one player go is not a overall summary of a managers summary of a player. Every gaffer makes the occasional mistake of letting a gem slip form their fingers.

Wiggy, you are either smoking something not English tonight, or you are truly one of the dumbest arrogant and damn right outragouse football fans (not supporter) i have ever heard of. Even suggesting Tilly get the sack is ludacris, lets go back to 17th in League Two shall we, back to Bury and Chester away on a Tuesday night. Yes i think we will enjoy that alot.:guns:

A decision that the overwhelming majority of posters on here agreed with at the time (a fact proved when we dug out the thread a month or two ago). Hindsight is a truly wonderful thing.

Yes, I saw him play and he was poor. As others are saying, Tilson was right AT THAT TIME. We can't all see into the future, and every spindly young 17 year old is not going to become the next Wayne Rooney.

Tilsons mistakes are getting worse with experience, i know people on here don't like the truth but even they must admit he has done some weird things this year!

Admittedly Tilson has showed signs of crumbling under the pressure this year, but what i think we all have to remember is that he is still pretty much inexperienced. Yes he has done well for us at this level before but that was for one season, and it takes alot more time then 4 or so years to learn everything about management. I heard someone else on here say this and its true that we have been spoilt with Tilly as manager, and now we crave the success he has brought us the last few seasons every year.

Its not realistic that we will either be promoted or have a unbelievable cup run every year. The movements we have made as a club since Tilly come in have been something none of us could have seen or believed before he took over, so to kick the man out at this stage would be stupid, knowing what he can do if he makes the right decisions. He desperately needs to bring a defender or two in on loan and if he doesn't then i will start to worry about if he is the right man to take us forwards otherwise. T&B can do us well for the future so keep the faith.

He scores anytime and anyhere with a bit of service. Unlike our new signing who wouldn't get a game for Daggers!

Hooper has had game time with us, and service as well, but hasn't managed to fulfill his promise.

Please remember, his currently playing in League Two at the moment, and thats a massive step down in quality, bar one or two teams.

Bloody hell crumbling under pressure, poor season. In the old days we'd be well pleased to be mid table. Just goes to show how the expectations of fans has risen to absurd heights, not only for Blues but all clubs. Basically if you're not top of the league your ****e, the players are ****e and the managers are ****e, No wonder people in the game must look at fans in amused disbelief. We do indeed need a reality check. This is football people not championship manager.
As for Wiggy a few home truths. He IS a man and he talks bollocks. Ignore him. He's probably Johnny Stokes having a laugh.

totally agree mate, top post

The ridiculous pressure that is on the team from our own fans its because we overachieved in getting to the Championship, mainly with players that served us so well in League Two.

I wouldn't change last season for anything, despite the relegation, but it has led to increased expectation, mainly from the "newer" fans who joined when we was on the crest of a wave.

The fans who have been with the club since League Two and beyond realise that upper League One is our standard at the moment until we get FF. When we get that sorted, we have the POTENTIAL to be a higher Championship side. Until then, we are a League One side. We don't have the spending power, or budgets to match Swansea, Leeds, Forest, Donny.

Another example of this is over at Norwich. I am very good mates with a few Norwich fans, and they think they have a divine right to be in the Premiership because of their previous tastes of it.

Last night was poor .. some of the worst rabbit in headlights football i have seen, but then this is the same team that played so well against leeds.

there are issues over consistency but there are so many kids in that team. it will come. ok, tilson has made some fundamental errors this season but then i made one or two this morning at work, and its because i am human

Paul Clark..? someone is having a laugh. Tilson is the man for the job, and as long as Ron Martin is at the club, i think Tilson will be too

Up the Shrimpers, and bring on the Cherries

What you have to understand though is if our players where consistent over the course of the season, a lot of them wouldn't be playing for us next season.

Consistently good players ply their trade in the Championship and Premiership, inconsistent players tend to ply their trade in League One and below.

You can afford for 1 or 2 players to be off form, but by the sounds of it last night it only sounded like 1 or 2 players turned up.

To be really picky no, as Barnard and Hammell played - one set up the goal, the other scored.

Rather than inconsistency, I'd say it's actually a very consistently poor defence, whenever under any pressure, that's cost us this season.

My only residing memory of Kightly in a Southend shirt was seeing him played in behind the left back with acres of space on his good foot. He set himself and then sliced the ball tamely towards the south lower.

Some players need to leave a club to improve and Kightly in my eyes is unquestionably one of them.

Incidentally, Bobby Robson told Paul Gascoigne he wasn't good enough on a trial at Ipswich. Bob Wilson was rejected by Matt Busby, too.

Is it just me or are some people on here missing the point on why we sent Gary Hooper out on loan?

Surely the whole purpose of this was to -

a) Give him regular first team football (which he is now getting)
b) Build his confidence up by scoring some goals (which he is now doing)

and

c) Come back to us ready for action and to really try and force his way into the team after suceeding in doing A and B.

Our manager obviously see's something in him to give him another contract and all this loan will have done is help him and hopefully us upon his return
