I have 4 season tickets in the South Upper and was really disappointed by two middle-aged "fans" (and their gran and daughter) who were sitting behind me yesterday: their moans, inane and banal "amusing" comments , foul language and absurd criticism of the team really got on my nerves.

The team played badly yesterday and the formation did not work. However, slagging off individual players at the top of your voice is going to achieve what exactly? That's not supporting the team or the club as a whole. I was just glad when the four idiots left about five minutes into the second half. I'd never seen them before and, hopefully, won't have to again.

the only consolation is, you'll have no problems moving seats this year!!!!

To be honest the fact we still pull in over 5,500 every week despite what we have been put through, Is testament to the loyalty the fans are showing actually. Ok, so some decide to shout abuse at certain players and or management and or certain board members. Whilst this may not be helpful in terms of lifting the spirit, these people are more than entitled to do so as paying customers. We all have different views and they are all equally valid. I think we all need to understand and accept that fact. I think it is starting to build up now and a divide is beginning to show amongst our fanbase. This is bound to result in a civil war of sorts between the fans and it will be a shame when this day arrives. I hope we can all come out of it the other side UNITED again.

This is a particular bug-bear of mine, and have posted before about this, we should always get behind the team, and never tolerate abuse to our own players. However, I did see/hear Widdrington shouting from the technical area on saturday to Matt Patterson and calling him a F%^&*!g ****. Fair enough Matt had a poor game (but not the only player who did). I wasn't happy to hear this, this is the the sort of thing that should stay in the dressing room. So we can't blame our own supporters too much when the Assistant is doing the same. . . not impressed. Did anybody else in the East's hear it?

That's not really on for an ex family club of the year - we shouldn't be signing f****** ****s if we want to reclaim this accolade.

Why has Pato being singled out? Yes, he had a poor game but in comparison to the rest of the team he was no different! Some of the personal attacks are just completely out of order. The lad's had half a dozen games and is still only a goal behind Corr and Grant as top scorer! Give him a break, get behind him and all the other youngsters and try to give them some confidence for gods sake.

For me, Barker, Timlin and Coughlan our three most experienced players need to put their hands up and detract the attention away from the younger players. Our older pro's were the poorest I have seen them all season so if any one should be getting abuse should it not be them - for me they were the most passionless on the pitch!

I too was pretty appauled by some of the abuse given to our players on saturday, yes, probably all of it was deserved, however to not support during the game is for me just wrong - abusing the players during the game, detracts from their performance, lowers confidence and just makes things worse. As for Tommy Widdrington abusing the players, if this is correct, then he is out of order.

Just for the record I think your ranting nonsense. In my humble opinion any abuse slung from the stands to any of the 'players' during todays match was fully justisfied. I can take the crap football (just) christ knows I have before, what I can't stand is lack of effort. I made a point of clapping only Grant off the field before he dissapered very quickly down the tunnel. He was badly let down by his teammates today and so were the fans. £16 quid for that Martin? Your having a ***king laugh mate.

I don't disagree with that, Max, in fact that's how I feel too. But many people do trot that line out despite having slagged off the likes of Harrold and Revell in the past.

Have we the worst home support in the country (can not bear to call them supporters) I think so. Why do we play so well away? Well simple, the players past and present loose all confidence at home frightened to shoot, to pass and beat opposing players because of a hardcore element who spend the whole match shouting abuse at our own players from start to finish. Spent the whole of the match (south upper) listening not only to pure filth but personal abuse towards our players WHY????? The same lot who got rid of Paynter and booed Mark Gower but cheered when he scored.
Yes we did not play well but was also unlucky. That is when we should all support the team not drag them down. Lets face facts because what’s happened in the close season to finish 10th will be success.

No, it's the same at any ground in the country, ffs. Personally I can't stand the nonsensical view that you should always back your own club and players. As paying members of the club we have a right to express our opinions. Not that I boo, but fans have the right to do so and we're not always going to agree on everything (eg. I happen to think that Martin selling the club at the present moment would be a disaster - very likely a highly unpopular view on these pages).

Re attendances: as I've mentioned before on these pages, many of the 'loyal' 5,500 supporters attending each week are those who bought season tickets early to take advantage of the discounted rate, under the wrong impression that we would be playing good football in League 1. The likelihood is that next season people will not renew their tickets and we will be attracting 3,500 per game, losing £500k in much needed income.

john;1227984Re attendances: as I've mentioned before on these pages said:
IMO the majority of people either renewing or buying season tickets actually held off buying until they knew which division we'd be in, and what the cost of tickets would be in League 2. Once our fate was sealed the price of the ticket dropped significantly, added to which the monthly payment scheme was attractive.

I'm not sure that was a majority but certainly a sizeable percentage & I was one of those.

After 1st having come to RH 40+ years ago & being a seaso for 25+ I really wasn't certain about bothering. Without the reduced price & the monthly payments I very much doubt if I'd be going now. I'd be shouting at the radio & abusing mcnasty from home but if I was paying game by game I reckon that I'd have lost interest by now.

The team simply haven't inspired me to engage with them, apart from Granty, possibly Clohessy & Hall, who look the best of a bad bunch out of the others. I've not been able to get to the last 2 games & simply haven't missed coming at all. I was at a wedding on Saturday, Mrs GNH texted me at 3pm to say how defensively we were set up & I completely forgot to check again until about 5:30pm for the score update.

Makes me a bad supporter but hey, ho **** happens.

I have had this view for sometime. A bloke used to sit behind me in black T, who after a bad pass two mins in would start with "Here we ****ing go again", and hurl abuse for the remainder of the match.

I sit in the upper south , and agree wholeheartedly, I sit a few seats from a certain zoner who hurls abuse at anyone who moves on the pitch or sideline, I will not out him though .He does occasionaly have a point :winking:

You will have to point that toe rag out to me mate. I'll have that stopped!:winking:

yes there was sme one in the west stand block t shouting as well and saying go now n dont come backe good ridance when pato came off and some one by mepulled him up and told him to **** off he didnt like it but not to slate our own players individualy. also imo fairhurs was so much worse than pato and pato is only 20

What has age got to do with it? They are both 21.
Fairhurst born 7/5/89
Paterson born 18/10/89

Do we think this only happens at Roots Hall then?

Back in another career in the late 1980's I was a travel agent in East London about 100 yards from Orients ground. I had to work saturdays until 3 and as the company took ground board advertising there it was easy to get tickets. As I had no chance of getting to the Hall I very often used to sneak off at 2:45 and go to Orient home games and even sponsored a couple of matches (as I did at Roots Hall as well).

Trust me, for Discussing whingeing supporters we have a long way to go before we get as bad as the Orient lot.

It happens at every ground in the country. It only lessens when the team is more successful and then is in direct proportion to the expectation levels.

Also, about the season ticket renewals. Personally I just renewed as I would have done anyway regardless of what league we were in. Many of my friends did the same.

interesting to read Hooly's comments. Supporter for 40+ years and seaso for 25 (very similar to me except I've only been a seaso for about 19 years) yet now has lost interest in the club. Rather concerningly however on another recent thread he recently seemed consumed with his desire to show that somehow both ESB and me were actually Ron Martin through some very clever alphanumeric equation that had suddenly "come to him" whilst on holiday in the Med. As clever and amusing as that may have been, one can't help thinking that if everyone showed that level of obsession then we may end up being a much better supported club.

I guess it shows where priorities lay...

Best (or worst) bonehead comment in the South Upper from so called "fan" was a "f ** k off back to Man City Conlon you c * * t" after the 19 year Conlon failed to convert a difficult cross in his first ever game for us.

:stunned:

Come on people, from when i was youngster the west stand was known as the boo boy stand, try listening to these ridiculous remarks light heartedly, and your fined them quiet funny,it's football and fans don't come to order, thank god.

It's good, but it's not brilliant. The best I've EVER heard, was when we played Yeovil(?) two seasons ago, at home, and someone behind me (this was in the South Upper) started ranting at the linesman and shouted "I hope your car breaks down and you miss the England match". (England game was due to KO just after 5pm that day)

Without a doubt, one of the funniest, yet dumbest things i've ever heard at a football match. I was in tears
