I'll always remember one game in our League One winning season, some burly guy in his mid 30s a few rows behind me was screaming "**** off Eastwood, you're ****ing useless". I detected no sense of irony from him at all.

Let's not lose site of the fact that this level of abuse happens up and down the country. THis goes from kids football through grass roots level to semi-pro level and playing in the Champions League. The reason is because every individual has their own ideas to what constitutes a good performances, what is acceptable value for money and a perceived standard that everyone should be at.

The same people who earn on average £28,500 per year (national average) and see blokes running around playing a game for a living that they can only imagine in their most epic dreams would ever come true, training for 2-3 hours a day 4-5 times a week and having a match at the end of the week and most pro's will be earning more than them yet they have a perceived luxurious lifestyle. A 2 day weekend to most and in their eyes a career of bliss for the players.

In my mind people that pay their entry fees are entitled to their views. My values and upbringing suggests that people shouldn't hurl personal abuse towards the players but who is to say I am right, I am just saying I wouldn't. After all, we have all been educated haven't we? Well, many have. So if they have come to that decision that they want to bark down a player's neck or for what it's worth the manager or the chairman too then are they entitled to? Well, ofcourse they are entitled to but is it going to have a positive effect? For some it will and some it won't. That is open to debate. Look at the flack Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham got after their 'infamous' world cup displays and they both turned round and produced the best they had in the Red of Manchester United.

The argument is slightly flawed because it is such a strong statement but it is one that doesn't possess a right or wrong answer and comes down to our values and morals. Perhaps the odd  as well!!

my twopenneth for what it's worth. We do have some bloody awful supporters who know nothing about football and think that other fans go to RH to hear their witicisms and jokes, which usually aren't very witty or funny. The trouble is they seem to sit directly behind you and with the all seater when it was full it was hard to move. It's better now the crowds are lower. I usually tell them to shut up and that I haven't come to RH to listen to their inane drivel. But why should I have to do this?. I don't come to see football to have a ruck with my fellow supporters. Are we worse than other football supporters I doubt. I looked at the Man U websites after our glorious win and they were apopletic about Ferguson who was just about the worst manager in the history of football. :stunned: He had lost the plot, was tactically naive, you name it it was it. They won the league that year if I remember correctly.
I think it's a bit like SZ. Some posters like Beefy are very knowledgeable and post a lot of interesting views and know about tactics and football. Some posters you can be less charitable about. It is especially difficult to stomach most of the posts directly after a defeat (was the same when Tilson was manager as well). Usually it is the most inane nonsense ever spoken. You have to wait until Sunday afternoon for more reasoned reflective posts.
Howevver we do have our share of ****tish fans. What did Charlie brown say? I love mankind...it's people I can't stand.

i actually sort of agree with this. 5 mins into the game and where i sit in the south were already groaning and moaning. i do actually think theres no surprise players look reluctant to shoot and take the easy option sometimes. i do think we are hard on them sometimes.

I imagine the problem is partly the lack of a positive atmosphere. People groan at grounds up and down the country, but Roots Hall is so quiet that you really hear the moaners here.

maybe so, but it only has a bad effect on the players. people should realise that
