Worley/Saah

I was under the impression Dorian would have loved to come back but he was having pressure applied by those behind the French national side who wanted him to play at a higher level than we could offer.

But the French national side do not own Dorian, and can't tell Spurs who to loan or sell him to. As for PSV and Metz perhaps they only see him as a back up which might get him a couple of games a season in micky mouse cups. That would be more of a step back, while playing for Southend might not be as glamourous but he an idol at Roots Hall and ego is everything for most footballers

for crying out loud!!! Worley would have been ideal - what the hell does tilson want? We've got no fit centre halves, worley is young, good prospect and by all accounts did ok at barnet yesterday.

I'm really angry on this one..
tilson should have just come out and said we could not pay his wage demands and transfer fee! He must have looked at appearances made by him if not wat a shocking mistake! We aint signing anyone who will be decent as we have nnnnnnooooooo moooooonnnney! But yet people still talking bout a prem player etc we cannot afford jack s$%t

Nah, I disagree - whilst an FA cannot FORCE a player to play for a club, they can say that "if you want to further your career and to be considered for the national side, then you need to play against higher opposition", its common sense.

Which is kinda what I believe happened.

And I would expect no less. He is on the fringes of the full French side, surely supporters wouldnt expect him to turn out for Southend!?
IMO no way is Dervite on the fringes of the full French squad, he is only a reserve at Tottenham. But i agree that they would definitely want him playing at a higher level than lge one

Dorian might 'love to come back', but both the French FA and Spurs would be looking to get him playing at a higher level than us. If he plays well for us he is valued as a good League 1 player... if he plays well for Coventry (any CCC team) then he gets valued as a good CCC player, he proves to the French FA that he's good, and Spurs get more money if they want to sell him.

I'd be staggered if he came back here, last thing I heard (from inside Spurs) was that he was probably heading to France

Can I remind everyone that when Dervite came here he hadn't played ANY - let alone many - league games. He was also young but came through with flying colours and now we all want him back

I didn't see Worley but obviously he wasn't in the same class as Dervite. Doing "ok" against a poor L2 side is hardly going to pacify the panicking classes who then will suddenly say in October "Why the bloody hell did we sign this inexperienced lump?"

If the club really want this unnamed centre back and think they can get him at the end of August, they have to make a judgement call. Do we get a short term loanee in for a month (can do that on August 7th) and then try and bag what we want on a 6 month loan? That would take us to the end of February. Personally I'd rather struggle for a month then have Dervite for 6 than just get someone who was "ok" as a permanent solution.

It's a tough one for T&B really. Very easy for us to judge - not our jobs on the line.

On the other hand I think that it's promising for Saah. If we weren't interested I think we'd have let him know by now.

I think the excuse given by Tilly re: Worley is lame - he knew exactly how experienced Worley was before he offered him a contract. If he really was as good as Dervite then there is no way Leicester would be sending him out on trials.

My guess is we will sign Saah as a "3rd" Centre Back and he will start against Huddersfield alongside Barrett. We'll then get our man on loan on the last day of the transfer window (at 5 to midnight!) - get ready for that late night SMS!

Saah's mug on the OS before the week is out then?

Reading between the lines, I think the issue with Worley is that he wants First team money but Tilly doesn't think he's a First Team player, at least not when everyone is fit. People (rightly) point out that we've not got any other fit centre-halfs on the books right now but we're probably going to be unable to pay First Team money to more than two central defenders and we've already got one on the books. Better to muddle through with Francis or a loanee in that position until we can fill the hole with someone who the manager backs to play 30-40 games right away. Potential is a luxury that we can't afford at the moment, sadly.

The similarity to Clapham last year is obvious but reading through the lines then too it was apparent that money was the issue. We could afford him but had he joined he'd have been one of the top earners and Tilly didn't want to go down that route considering that he was shorter than his ideal leftback. Emmanuel was even shorter but came at a fraction of the cost so it was easier to live with his short-comings (no pun intended).

As it was, Tilly ended up bringing in Dan Harding who was more than good enough. Fingers crossed he's got someone else of that ilk in mind.

Are we paying wages by the foot now ?

Which was what I heard too.

Now, with the loan signings of Matt Heath and John White, do we still think Saah is on Tilson's radar?

Surely if he wasn't he'd have been told by now, and we still haven't made a decision on Stepanov. Is he fit again yet?

Saah will be signing a 2 year deal tomorrow. You heard it here first.

Now IF he did, I wonder whether the reaction to signing an Orient reject would be the same as signing the two Col Ewe rejects today...

Not that I think Saah, White or Heath are rejects, but you can bet some people on here will.
