Worley/Saah

BoyWonder2

2024, the year of the Shrimpers ⭐🦐
Now this court case has been settled, for now, lets get back onto the topic of football.

Now, we all know we need one centre half at the very least, two if the budget stretches that far and over the last two games (Daggers and Barnet) we have had Worley (formely of Stockport/Chelsea/Leicester/Luton) and Saah (formely of Orient) playing centre half for us.

Now, there doesn't seem to be that many opinions on these two from the match threads and nobody seems to be discussing football all together recently.

What do we make of the two guys from the people that went to either Daggers or Barnet and also opinions of people that haven't seen them play. Are either of these the answer to our centre half crisis, or should we continue to look elsewhere.

Now, Worley was very, very highly rated a few years back by Chelsea (they paid £150K to Stockport to get him) but seems to have fallen off the radar a touch. He signed a 3 year deal with Leicester in May 2008 and was loaned to Luton as well. On paper he seems like an ideal signing. Possible links with Sawyer and Grant as well.

Saah seems to be highly rated by the resident O's fans on here, and I'm mainly finding good things about him from the research I've done. Started as a midfielder and got moved back to centre half. He is comfortable on the ball, strong in the tackle and in the air but is prone to the odd lapse in concentration, ala Clarke.

What do we think? Sign them up or ship them out?

So, there's one Friendly left before the Huddersfield game... Any triallist we get in for Stevenage has got to be signed then, or will we wait for one of the desparate players and sign them without seeing them in a blue shirt first?

Disappointed to read that about Worley, I generally thought he could be the type of player we need. He generally won everything in the air with minimum of fuss and although he did make a couple of midsjudgements, looked solid. Had good positional sense and seemingly good distribution. Also an attribute we've lacked for years - height.

I had never rated Saah when he'd played against us, but he's done ok. A few clumsy fouls, something i expected, but he's done ok in the air and on the ground. Not as good as Worley but does have more experience.

Personally, I'd have signed them both. Let's be honest, who else better are we likely to get on a permanent (important for me) basis in such a short time-frame and on a budget of, well, very little?

The left back, John, was ****. No loss there, however I find it strange these trialists are getting games ahead of Johnny Herd, especially as he is almost certain to start against Huddersfield.

Having been really disappointed, I'm now quite glad I'm going to be away for the first few games of the season, although I reckon my 5ft 7 inch frame would have been in with a shout of a starting berth at centre half against Huddersfield. :stunned:

I've always agreed with Tilly when he says that we shouldn't sign anyone who isn't better than what we already have but it's getting to the point where I'm beginning to get nervous at the lack of activity. We really have a tiny squad of first teamers and with the injuries/illnesses at the moment we will soon be found out.

Further to that, what the hell is the point of getting all these trialists in if we then say they don't have the experience or pedigree that we are looking for?! You don't need a trial to know their age or number of first team games played! Were they just there to make up the numbers so we could fulfil our friendly fixtures or something?

For crying out loud!!! Worley would have been ideal - what the hell does Tilson want? We've got NO fit centre halves, Worley is young, good prospect and by all accounts did ok at Barnet yesterday.

I'm really angry on this one..

Exactly what i said yesterday....

I'm a bit disappointed with it as well, but go back a week and no-one had even suggested him as a possible signing, and a lot of people on hear wouldn't have heard of him.

Same as Michael Raynes at Stockport.

Guess I'm more frustrated with Tilly - using excuses again. Like someone said before, you dont have to get someone in on trial to know how many games they've played.

My earnest and sincere hope, is that there has been some recent contact between Tilly and White Hart Lane.
Following Dorian's nightmare against Celtic, I am hoping Tilly can convince Harry that we are just the right place for a bit of confidence rebuilding. Say 6 months.
Adam should be fit for the first match and the ideal solution seems to be to play Franno alongside him. Granty for temp right back. Dorian back by the end of August.

I'd like to think so too but I'm sure it won't happen. I can see a back 4 of Sankofa/Franno/Barrett/Herd against Hudderfield and after the money they've spent and the signings they've made that scares me to death......

beermonsters post about talking to Brushy would suggest we are in for Dorian, a tall centre back at a Prem club who they won't let out until late August and want him to go to a Championship club, sounds a bit like Dervite to me but if Worleys out of the frame now we have to sign Saah or someone else by Huddersfield!

Just seen Tilson's comments on why Worley wasn't offered a deal and I can't believe what I've read!! Need someone with more experience?!?!? Didn't he know how old / inexperienced at league level he was?!?! What a complete waste of time for both us and Worley who must feel as though he has been totally messed about.

****ing rediculous, if the excuse is his lack of experiance why the **** get him in for a trial, look on wikipedia it shows you how many games he has played. This is getting silly. I would hardly think Saah is good enough either.

Unlike you to be angry.

How can you say that Worley is ideal if you haven't seen him play?

That said, I agree with you that it is a bit stupid to say that he hasn't played enough games in his career when knowing this when inviting him for trial. Clearly a pointless exercise.

That's a shame. I agree with those saying he is inexeperienced just shows that he was brought in to put a side out in friendlies with the slim chance he was better than expected. I'm disappointed but it shows Tilsons expectations, can't say I would be happy with a player like Saah renowned for lack of concetration.

Deary me, one piece of good news followed by another at this club eh!

But, Tilly must have someone lined up or he wouldn't have let Worley go... (I hope)
