USA dispatched of Russia 5-3 this evening, with 4 goals from Keith Tkachuk.

In other world cup news, the Czechs embarrassed the Swedes 6-1. Milan Hejduk (GO AVS!) scored 2 in that game.

Ok, I'll admit I know nothing about this sport - and have only read the posts on this thread without looking any of the info up anywhere else, BUT:

What the 'eck is the point of the 'round robin' games if all the teams get through to the quarters anyway?! Ok if you win your RRs you get to play the team that did worst in your group (I'm guessing) but it still means if you're toilet in your first two games you're still only a win away from the semis...

I think thats how it's done, Spiffy. So it could be like this after the first round of games have been completed:

1st in Group A v 4th in Group B
2nd in Group A v 3rd in Group B
3rd in Group A v 2nd in Group B
4th in Group A v 1st in Group B

But in this case, Group A could be Europeans and B would be North America.

That's just my guess on it all

seeing as it is europe and north america (kinda) it was pretty much as you said hils just 1st group a v 4th group A and so on.so like you said spiffy the yanks are now in the semis after losing 2 group games and if sh*t happens and Canada who won all their group games lose tonight it would be a firkin travesty.
So after plenty of beer watching England today it is now all up to Canada this evening, 29 minutes till the puck drops.

Dont mean to pour water onto your parade but let us consider a small factor such as the size of the population. A larger population means more talent to draw from.

United States - 294 Million
Great Britain - 59 Million
Canada - 32 Million

So on those stats and using Canada as the base level

The number of medals won should look like this

United States 110
Great Britain 22
Canada 12

So as you can see Great Britain and Canada did ok whereas United States underachieved.

And nobody bring Australia into this.
