At long last the world cup is upon us.with the tournament run in 2 groups.european div finland,germany,sweden and czech republic.the n american group is canada,usa,slovakia and russia.
bit of an upset in the first game as finland stuffed the czech 4-0. this afternoon in stocholm sweden got their much fancied win over a weak german team 4-2.
at 7.00pm est the might of canada will face the loudmouths from south of the border (sorry seth) in montreal.this is sure to be an outstanding game as there obviously a long time rivalry between the 2 nations.
with the threat of strike looming many nhl players maybe putting themselves in the window for a breakaway league or even a european team spot.

Good first period from Canada outshooting USA 19-6 scoring on a powerplay 2/3rds of the way through the period scoring was St louis from Thornton and Neidermayer
Canada are all over the usa and playing a very physical game.lets hope they keep it up.
on another note i played a preseason game and scored 1 goal and got 1 assist last week.

I haven't any preference out of the 8 teams in the competition (and didn't even know about it until I read this thread) so went for Slovakia just because I can.

sorry for the late update but the canadians wiped the floor with the usa last night.A strong hard hitting performance in the first period was enough to knock the stuffing out of the americans.After an exchange of goals in the 2nd period all canada had to do was shut up shop.the americans then took to running the keeper this bought a small bout of fisticuffs with even the great mario lemieux getting involved.http://www.sportsnet.ca/
the 2nd game goes tonightwhen canada will face slovakia puck drops at 7.00.

Right, the European division sounds right to me, but the North American one? I thought Russia and Slovakia were in Europe? Theres going to be some funny answer to explain this one, i just know it.
