Be great if he signed, but at the right price, and becasue he wants to be here, not 'we were the best/only offer on the tabler' . If we get Eastwood that means less funds elsewhere
He is still in my mind a 'risk' . Yes he needs to be fitter and a pre season may achieve this, yes he has shown 'glimpses' of how good he used to be . But at the end of the day the Freddy of old would have scored last night, today's Freddy didn't. Would Next years Freddy?

Personally think that he will stay and that we will have a strikeforce of harris dickinson eastwood and one other with corr paterson benyon and crawford all off the wage bill.

I also think that we will lose hall or bilel or possibly both

I'm not so sure he wouldn't have taken the kind of reduction in wages that would have been necessary for us to sign him had we gone up, however, sadly, to me at the end of last night's game, that looked like a wistful goodbye to supporters and a ground where he'd hoped to be able to return on a contract. I have no doubt at all that Colchester or Orient will go knocking and offer more than we can. Guess it all comes down to his gut feeling, money or where he feels at home?

How can Colchester or Orient offer more than us financially or mentally ?

Both clubs have an inferior wage bill due to lesser gates and he will not get the kind of reception he gets playing for blues at any other club.

The only thing we cant offer is league 1 football.

Its better to be a big fish in a small pond the a small fish in an ocean.

The man has made mint since leaving and 2k pw to play for southend is not a bad option at all

Not sure we can afford that, as long as Cowling is still involved at Colscum then he will bankroll them. They're already trimming back and that would release funds for Freddy. Hope I'm wrong, obviously.

Matt paterson and barry corr or on 3k+pw combined and i doubt we will see either play for us again couple that with crawford and benyon who hasnt set the world alight then we could afford it easy.

Some positivity for next years budget and some stadium news materialising from the board would go a long way aswell

Given that we just keep hoofing it to Moshni's head, is keeping Freddie worth it? I can see him being great alongside Dickinson or Harris but only if we pass it. Hoofing it doesn't play to his strengths and Sturrock is a hoof-merchant

Just said elsewhere, a fit Dicko playing alongside either of Harris or Freddy would work very well!

Freddy said himself in the echo that he wants to play as high up as he can, if a league one club comes in for him I think he'd take the offer, he might love the club but he still has to think about his career.

No control your own lads

My old boss who is not really a Southend fan spoke to him in the players bar after the game.

He said Freddy was gutted as he wanted to come here but as a League one club. Whilst he didn't rule it out my ex boss said he ot the distinct impression that he was unlikely to drop to L2.

Robbie is going to obey the football league ruling on income and is also withdrawing much of his financial support at the WHCS, he wants the club to raise their own income and be financially independent of him, if that means having lower wages at the club and therefore possibly inferior players so be it. He has spent millions on the new training ground over at Tiptree which comes into use this Summer and loads on the youth academy which is where he sees the benefit to long term future of the club. Eastwood will not be targeted by us I don't think, he looks overweight slow and injury prone sad to say it but his best days look gone to me, it is up to him no doubt some club would take a punt on him getting fit and back to something near his best but if Southend feels like home and the money is reasonable he is better off staying where he is adored.

Why do half our fans look backwards? Give them Ron Martin's job, and they'd appoint Tilson, sign Eastwood, and no doubt try and coax Shaun Goater out of retirement. Did you know there are thousands of other footballers out there. Did you also know its not 2004/2005 any more?

If we play to our strengths and create chances, we don't need Eastwood! Mohsni will bag 15 if he gets regular games. So will Dickinson. Harris is a far more proven player than Eastwood will ever be, and Benyon looks like he could find the net if he got the service (he'll be another Charlie Macdonald who goes and scores for fun elsewhere).

All we read on this zone is Eastwood Eastwood Eastwood. We had him in his prime - why not let someone else pick up the bill now he's past his best.
