Wiggy's ratings!

I also thought Francis was our star man!

Time for Flavs to come back in me thinks, Collis' confidence must be at an all time low.

Why is it we only start playing after conceding the first goal. If this is the case, why dont we start 1 goal down at the start of every game?

To be honest when did we last win a game and play well? We played very poor against Swindon and Huddersfield and got the right result.

There's just no team spirit out there on the pitch, you can tell lots from the players body language.

The season is just getting worse and one man is to blame, Mr Tilson!

:(

Come on, Tony, let's not panic. I don't think it's a lack of team spirit, more a lack of confidence at the moment. Let's not forget that two seasons ago we went on a similar winless streak (I think it was something like six or even eight games) but bounced back thanks to a rather fortunate win over Hartlepool. We just need something similar to happen to re-ignite our season.

Plus, I honestly can't believe you thought we were poor against Huddersfield? Apart from a nervy spell at 2-1 we bossed most of the game and played some excellent stuff at times - and remember Huddersfield were on a great run at the time.

Tilly deserves some stick for today but it's not his fault we failed to take our chances against Oldham and Gillingham, which would have seen us five points better off and in the play-offs.

Can't sleep so thought I'd chuck my two penn'orth in. I thought the game was pretty poor today, played out largely in the middle of the field. Bristol took about their only chance similar to Oldham the other week. We looked to be pretty short on ideas again and maintained the usual approach of trying to play everything down the wings when the oppo defence was dealing with almost every high ball that came in, and yet again, we found a keeper playing well behind them to cover any shots on target.

Rarely for me I'm subscribing to the "Hunt done well" camp today, I thought he looked better by far playing central defence alongside Clarke. Maher and Gower were both AWOL today and I thought Morgan was unfortunate to be subbed as I felt he did ok. Macca and Bailey were both under par during the first half but ten times better in the second. Barrett didn't look at all comfortable. Collis didn't have a lot to do but didn't deal with the one shot on target...again. Our best players without a shadow of a doubt were Simon Francis and Charlie Mac, both put in tons of effort and looked as if they had actually done some training, great crosses from both. I thought Hoops did well when he came on, but he needs service in the form of balls to run through on, he's no good with his back to goal. Black didn't have time to make any impression.

Daggers game needs to be seen as a bit of light relief, team needs to be shuffled. Flavs back in goal, Maher dropped and Macca and Bailey allowed to play in the middle. Hooper and Charlie to start up front. Then back to the serious business the following week against Yeovil.

you can't just blame one man when there's 16 players in the matchday squad.

Some of them aren't playing as well as they have done in the past, players are equally as accountable as the manager

Francis was by no way our best player today , although the improvement in him as a player is there to see , last season he was to lightweight , couldn't pass , and certainly couldn't defend , but he is getting better every game .

Add to that positive , the fact that Hunt for 99% of the game played well and IMO formed a better partnership with clarke than what we have seen this season.

I would keep the same team for daggers apart from drafting Scannel in for maybe one of the midfielders

Excellent post!

to quote Ian Holloway, its square pegs in round holes. Mccormack isnt a right midfielder, AB isnt a left back, and im not sure Hunt is much of a centre back. There was one attack in the 2nd half when either Charlie Mac or Morgan ran from the left to the right and had no outlet as Mccormack was standing in centre midfield. It was clear the balance of the team wasnt right, and then Gower got subbed for Hooper which still meant the side was unbalanced.

I always prefer players play in the position they are comfortable in, even if it means you drop one of Maher, Bailey or Mccormack to allow a more "natural" wide player to play.

I dont think Collis is any better or any worse than Flahavan so why drop him.

Funny old game football! We all watch the same match and appear to see quite different things happening. I suppose that's what makes the post-match debate interesting.

My take on performances, yesterday's in particular? Individually, our players (with the exception of our attack) look as strong if not stronger than those we had in the CCC last year but we are consistently less than the sum of our parts when we play as a team. We do lack confidence at the moment but, crucially, we lack an attack that will score goals. Up to now we have relied on our midfield plus Leon Clarke. With Clarke apparently no longer in the frame we are left with hard working players in attack but no one who looks as though they can score goals consistently at this level.

Collis 5 not much to do, one ridiculous parry when Flavs would have caught it, little attempt to stop the goal
Hunt 4 how does he get away with it, twice tried to usher the ball out for a goal kick and twice the attacker retrieved it, shows how poor he is
Francis 9 mom. Class act, good on ball, good movement, good distribution, shows how clueless Tilson is to have left him out of team recently
Barrett 5 showed that this division is about his limit, left back not his position and poor substitute for Hammell, Tilson takes the blame again, another genuine player playing in the wrong position.
Clarke 8 player of the year for me already, hardly ever has a bad game
Maher 4 crab, crab, crab, crab, you got him out the side once Tilson, showed some bottle and now we have got him back and his influence is negative and not good to watch, give the ball away a lot as well
Bailey 6 still not as good as he was but got a bit more involved 2nd half
Macca 5 Another one out of position and it shows, Tilson blamed again
Gower 5 Inconsistent performances lately but still classy enough to earn a place, need him in the team as he is the only creator
Morgan 6 not great but he has pace, unfortunately he is in the worst team in the division to utilize it with our ridiculous crab like midfield
Charlie Mac 6 tries hard and some nice touches although the manager likes to play the high ball to the smallest bloke on the park
Hoops 6 burst in to life as soon as he came on and missed a sitter but at least he was there, convinced he is good but will never know with this manager

Tilson 1 you really showed how poor a manager you are today, without a Freddy, Leon, inspired Flavs to get you out a hole, ideas and tactics are pathetic!

I love these ratings they always give me a good laugh!!!

I agree. Quite a few times yesterday, Gower semed to be on his own on the left wing and when you looked for Barrett he was in his usual position of CB.
I think Morgan was better out on the wing once Hooper came on. he looked lightweight up front and didn't seem to want to take on the defenders when it mattered. I though Collis did OK and still think he should keep his place in the team.
With regards to midfield, I would be inclined to drop Maher. He gave the ball away too much yesterday and I much prefer Macca in the CM position with Bailey. This was the format that was working not that long ago so why not give it another go.
Now that Clarke has gone why not try Harrold up front with Charlie Mac. Charlie couldn't reach the long balls yesterday but Harrold would have got up to some of them and maybe flicked them on for Charlie to get on the end of. Controversial I'm sure but anythings worth a try at the moment!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, our problem isn't the goalkeeper. Rovers walked through our 10 outfield players prior to sticking it in the back of the net. Also we're back to playing hoofball again which, considering we hardly have anyone over 6' tall, is probably going to be the wrong tactic.
