Looked like it to me, There was no bank of four across the midfield.

True but there were two centre forwards playing centre forward. Then Weston went and played centre forward. It looked like a lop sided 4-4-2 to me

wonder if Pb ever heard of 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-2-1 , darn sure Payne would fit into either of those systems
.all this talk about what system he would fit into makes me wonder what system did the youth team play when he was scoring so readily for them .

At youth level his skill and technique would have meant lots of goals etc....trouble is he plays against big nasty men now.

No to both of them. We'd be sacrificing too much width in both and only playing one striker in the other. We can't be switching to systems that don't really fit the squad we have just to fit in one player

Are you sure we played 4-3-3 at any point on Saturday? Looked 4-4-2 to me until Hurst came on.

Looked to me like he tried to be too clever with a fluid formation. It looked like a very unbalanced 4-4-2 with Leonard wide right and Weston wide left, which occasionally changed to a 4-4-3 when we had the ball going into their half. That's when Weston went further up to become a 3rd striker and Leonard tucked inside to become a 3rd central midfielder. Either way it didn't work.

They were both playing "forward" but not really in a central position like you would expect in a 442. They were rarely in a position to support each other.

Think it shows just how much of a mess it was that no one really knows.

I know everyone seams to hate 1 up top but

i think we should try 4-2-3-1

Back four picks it self due to lack of choice
You can then have Timlin Leonard other options Deegan or Atkinson
Payne Wordsworth Worral other options Hurst Weston Hunt
Whom ever fits the bill

I was an advocate of this at the start of the season, but now we're a few games in I think Hunt would struggle as a lone striker (just his size, not really a target man) and would work better in a 2. Hunt has looked the best striker to me so far and should start when fit so this is an argument against 4-2-3-1.
