Why do we?

Its a problem that arises due to having so many "new" fans, thanks to our rise in the last few seasons, these fans are only used to us when we are winning, unlike us lot, they have not experienced it any other way, and so adjusting time is required.

I seem to remember when i was younger they kicked off in the town centre and started throwing bottles around before a match.
Yep, exactly why Brighton are my most hated opposition.

Dont get me started, my blood boils just thinking about them.

Aaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhh

Have to agree with that and I live here. A few years ago someone bought me a ticket for their playoff semi-final and as it was at the Withdean the tickets were like gold dust. Had to refuse in the end as I'd have found it completely impossible to sit in amongst the supporters of a team that I hate.

Good to see Mark McGhee completely ballsing it all up for them and I'm hopeful he can achieve back-to-back relegations to shut up the 2,000 taxi drivers which seem to make up the mainstay of their support. They have been driving around as arrogant as hell for too long, thinking they're bigtime because they were in the Championship. At the beginning of last season one told me that the Brighton Chairman Dick Knight had personally told him that he was "keeping an eye on Eastwood to see if he could cut it at our level"....oh well son, didn't quuite work out that way did it??!

Totally agree...

I hate when people equalise and do that. Hardly easy if you can only draw is it.......

I watched the goals again on Anglia Sports News last night & when they showed the Col U goals from West Brom there was only a couple of inbreds giving it the Easy chant when they pulled a consolation goal back, MUPPETS!!!!

My views on the whole noise issues….

I have been a casual Southend supporter for the past 6 years, and this year was the first season that I bought a season ticket. Now I am the first to admit yes, this is because of our recent success. I think you’ll all agree that watching Southend play is far more enjoyable when we win, whether this makes me less of a supporter or not I couldn’t care less.

So… after deciding to get a season ticket I sat in all parts of the ground to see where I would like to sit for the whole of this season. First up was the East. I sat as close to the away fans as possible because I thought that’s where the maximum banter with away fans would be. Throughout the game we were thrown abuse by the away fans (Bradford) and not even so much as one chant was given back and when I started with a few pals just looks of disgrace were given, very frustrating.

Then it was the South Upper, now correct me if im wrong but I think this is the most prestige place to sit. It seems so on this board with a lot of posters sitting there. Major disappointment. Generally very quite, full of a lot of old boys and the only chant all game was ‘Barmy Army’ (repeat till your sick in the face) jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez, I don’t even get it?!?! ‘barmy army’? who the hells barmy? What a crap chant!

Now, the West on the other hand, wow. When the away fans sell out (should do a lot this season) it truly is incredible. The first game I sat in the West with a sell out was Brentford last year and the atmosphere was truly sublime. Lots of friendly and not so friendly banter and singing non stop, the west stand truly rocks! And although I hate the little cretins its all down to the chavs! There on their feet singing from kick off, and if no one else can really hear them its just a sign of the Halls poor acoustics. Yeah the ‘easy’ chant can sometimes get a little annoying but no where near as annoying as ‘BARMY ARMY’ that we hear trickling down from the south upper!

Without the chavs in the West the Hall would be silent and chants from away fans directed at the East ‘your support is f%%king ****!’ would be heard a lot more often.

West stand it is for me, I suppose its all horses for courses if signing, chanting and generally creating a wicked atmosphere isn’t for you, stay clear from the West. Heres hoping that one day all the stands will be as noisy.

Enjoy one of my clips of the amazing atmosphere created by the chavs. Stoke at home, dying seconds of the game, stoke fire wide and their attempts are met with wolf whistles and the ‘Easy’ chant.

I hate chavs, but roots hall wouldn’t be the same without them.

(apologies for the frame-by-frame video, not sure why it doesn’t flow, anyway it’s the sound that’s really important listen here and be sure to crank up those speakers!)

agree with a lot of what you say, i have sat in most areas of roots hall and find the west stand my favourite, its a good balance of atmosphere and view. i like to be along the side of the pitch but the south stand upper is a wicked view. east stand is a good view but fairly quiet and you can get he sun in your eyes which is annoying, however its pretty much all STH now so not an option for me anyway. i sit west stand u block now when i can. halfway line, halfway up so the poles dont block the view too much. close enough to the chavs to hear them but not to see them! brilliant:D

I would love to sit with all the chavs ( even though i really dislike them when outside the hall) but being poor i can only afford family enclosure season ticket, But i can't see why everyone don't just all do there best and get behind the team. I'm sure the team would love it if they could hear us all game.

Totally agree, but it just seems singing and chanting is not what a lot of southend supporters came to the Hall for.

Sadly im sure that if a democratic vote was taken all singing, standing and banter would be banned by our fans.

I can't understand why some fans come and don't get behind the team, i thought thats what its all about come to watch a game of football and SUPORT your own team, let hear ya sing and chant. Be the '12th man'

We tried quite a few 'get behind the team' threads last season but apart from the odd game the atmosphere was not as good as the League 2 promotion season.

I don't think we will ever be able to create a good atmosphere at Roots Hall. When the South Upper try & sing they manage to sing 3 different songs at the same time. Thats the problem all our vocal fans spread about the ground. It won't change until we get a new ground & all the vocal fans can sit together(even then thats no cert that the atmosphere will improve).
