As I've said, I sat in the West for the first time in years and it was much louder than the South Upper were I normally sit.

Was excellent atmosphere, like an away game...
Still could not hear you very well down the SW corner. But could hear the Sunderland fans much louder.

We must all try harder, at times on Saturday the South Upper were trying to sing 3 different songs
wow.gif

The atmosphere at Roots Hall was discussed on here quite a bit last season.  I think we have to accept that not much can be done to improve the atmosphere.

I see the new PA system was in place with new speakers at various places. Pity they were still using the same dodgy mike though.  Noticed also that the scoreboard was not working.
Why can't we have a replay screen ?
I am sure a few "oohs & aghs" would be to our adavantge !

After all we need to show that we are up there with the big boys !

Savour the win on Saturday. Irrespective of what a poor Sunderland side we faced, don't forget they have figured in a great FA Cup Final Victory and they are a big , big club(albeit a long while ago).

We were truly outstanding on Saturday the 19th August 2006.

The lads are really finding their true level. Each and everyone of them !

Sit down and be noisy, bno standing up blocking my view please.
I'M back row so its ok. i only block the bricks veiw.

I thought the atmos in the RBS was really low key again, me and Shrimptank tried a few times to get some songs going but it just wasn't happening... strange considering the result and performance

ghostface.gif
Those were the days!

"We're the north bank, we're the north bank, we're the north bank of Roots Hall!!!"

I remember the days when the smashing of the neon light tube with a football was a daily occurance on a match day!

biggrin.gif

Shrimptank will remember all that used to go on!

I'd love to go back to those days. Was such a great atmosphere!!!

Anyone remember "Hooter-Man, Hooter-Man, Hooter-Man".

I hear Cardiff will be in there when they visit..........
I doubt it.

The reason the away fans have the North Bank is because it is the only stand with its own designated entrance and exit, making it easier to segregate and police.

I saw one of the strip-lights get destroyed on my first visit to Roots Hall!

That North Bank made so much noise, it was extraordinary.

I was in the West Stand on Saturday and it was song after song after song. Outstanding atmosphere, if a little harsh on the Sunderland fans.

Any team who can bring 2,000 fans down that distance deserves a little more respect. There was some skinny eejit in front of me in bracelets that probably weighed more than he did, giving it the big one all afternoon.

Surely, there comes a point where you're too happy about your own team to focus on trying to goad northerners into a fight that neither of you want?

Ah, I don't know. Maybe I'm getting old...

I think what Rayleigh Blue was alluding to was the 'incident' a number of seasons ago now when a few Welshboys decided to give the little gobby chavs in the West Stand a fright and launch themselves over the wall...

Was like watching the parting of the waves when the little boys legged it out the back of the stand!..leaving the older lads to deal with them...

Now that was comedy gold!

I've never seen Burberry move so quickly!

Not even the local females at which the chant is (albeit accurately) aimed?

Totally agree...

I hate when people equalise and do that. Hardly easy if you can only draw is it.......

It was incredibly quiet in the first half. The only noise I heard was the Sunderland fans and a few sporadic ones in the West and near me in the East. I'm normally straight in there with chanting but I couldn't be bothered really. I was actually just enjoying sitting watching the football!

Second half was better, even when we were on the back foot.

It was definitely Cardiff City, Rich. The Bluebirds were leading with just seconds to go when their centre-half scored one of the most amazing looped own goals I've ever seen to hand the Shrimpers an unlikely point. The F Block kids gave the Cardiff faithful loads of stick and then legged it as quick as they could, scattering families, when the Cardiff fans reciprocated. We watched the whole thing from the South Upper with great amusement!

It was both the Swansea and Cardiff games that the chavs were scattered in the West Stand

Who remembers Brighton at home when Barry Hunter scored both goals.

There was lots of trouble that day wasn't there.

The Brighton mob couldn't keep quiet during a minutes silence
sad.gif

Then they kick off!

Always hated Brighton.

I seem to remember when i was younger they kicked off in the town centre and started throwing bottles around before a match.
