Why do we?

I had to sit in Block X yesterday as I was late in getting my ticket - something I was dreading as I usually enjoy the more genteel atmosphere in the East, however, I must say that is was freakin awesome over the West yesterday.

The place was crazy loud and it really felt like it was a bit of a Cauldron atmosphere. I'm not sure how good the accoustics are at Roots Hall and if the noise travels at all well but it was fantastic to see and hear the 2 blocks nearest the away fans really generating a lot of noise.

what wrong with sticking the away fans in the west

I hear Cardiff will be in there when they visit..........

Probably because some of us are nervous

I was wary when we were 2 goals up...but thats just me

North West was pretty much consistently loud, although it did go quiet enough just before we scored for me to hear the East Stand from where I was sitting in the west

As I've said, I sat in the West for the first time in years and it was much louder than the South Upper were I normally sit.

Was excellent atmosphere, like an away game...

I don't doubt it. The Upper was like a library at times yesterday. I'm not complaining because I certainly wasn't singing.

Honestly though, the West could barely be heard. Goes to show just how crap the acoutics at Roots Hall are, I suppose.

I sat in west block v last season and the only chants i've ever heard from the upper is 'barmy army'.

Still could not hear you very well down the SW corner. But could hear the Sunderland fans much louder.

We must all try harder, at times on Saturday the South Upper were trying to sing 3 different songs

The atmosphere at Roots Hall was discussed on here quite a bit last season. I think we have to accept that not much can be done to improve the atmosphere.

I see the new PA system was in place with new speakers at various places. Pity they were still using the same dodgy mike though. Noticed also that the scoreboard was not working.

Whats to stop the club inserting mics into the roof space and channeling the singing into other parts of the ground? Or at least switching mic pick up from the stand that's making the most noise at any given time.

Oh, wait up a minute.....scrap that, far to complicated. Can't even get a mic that works for the PA

Oh I don't know. There were still p%&*ks doing it at 1-0. I was still uneasy at 2-0 but when the third went in I turned north with both arms in the air and joined in.

Watching FL review (it might have been the Cheltenham game) there were loads of supporters doing an easy chant after their team had just equalised. WTF ?

That happened quite a few times last season aswell. IIRC the Palace fans were doing it when they equalised

I get annoyed sometimes when we join in songs, and people in front of us look at us like, what are you doing, sit down and be queit would you. All i want to do is get behind the team and cheer them on to victory.

I ignore people like that.

So long as you aren't swearing or making obscene comments, it's none of their business if you choose to sing along.

Football League rules. Torquay United tried that a couple of seasons ago and got a rap across the knuckles from the FL ...

I think the rules might have changed. I certainly read something on one forum or other a few weeks back that said that Southampton are doing just that at St. Marys this season.
