This.
Potentially Lambert over Carroll but I'm undecided on that one, tempted to go for Carroll's youth but Lambert can take a decent penalty and is less injury prone and more reliable.

One name in that squad gives me shudders...James ****ing Milner. *sigh*

It isn't a coincidence that Milner is the only English outfield player who Man City felt was good enough to make any significant impact on their title winning squad this season.

Against tough opposition I'd happily have Milner making one of our flanks solid. He'd dependable, good in possession and useful in different roles. In the group stages though I hope we try to blitz teams and build a bit of energy in the squad and fans, rather than Capello's attritional and ponderous group stage.

He is still an awful player IMO.

He's played a big part in two title-winning Man City sides, in a squad almost entirely dominated by foreign players. Fans don't appreciate what he does but I'd suggest managers who know more about football clearly do.

The name that gives me shudders is Chris Smalling. I could think of at least 5/6 centre-backs I'd pick over him. He's only in the squad because he plays for Man U, even after the season they've had. Probably would've had Adam Johnson over Oxlade-Chamberlain too as Ox has been injured a lot recently. Again, big club bias. But apart from that I pretty much agree with it. Surprised that Flanagan and Stones made the stand-by list over Gibbs and Caulker.

I think Smalling is a top player. He also provides cover at RB.

I'd have liked Caulker rather than Stones as back up because at least Caulker has some England experience.

Big club bias?

The Ox is a far better player than Johnson and in the absence of Walcott a shoe in.

If there was really such thing as big club bias Shaw wouldnt have gone instead of Cole.

Almost wish Stones was going instead of Jones or Smalling, having 3 of the back 4 be Everton players would mean the defenders would gel well together.

Defence is weak the rest of the squad not too bad. Jones and Smalling lucky considering their performances this season. Hopefully we won't have to call on them.

Johnson over Ox is laughable

You mean the other way round right? Ox is on the plane and Johnson isn't. I'd probably do the same thing, I don't think Ox will get much gametime but he could be a decent impact sub with his pace, Johnson had a patch of fantastic form but has dropped off massively the last few games to the point that he often hasn't played the full 90 minutes for Sunderland.

Shocked, stunned and saddened by the omission of Adam McGurk from the squad. I am basing this purely on Andy Hinchcliffe's appraisal of him during yesterday's match.

Surprised that Lampard is included, thought he may have had his last game, especially with Cashley going that way. Guess this will be his final bow though.
