Who's going to replace The Goat?

As for Horsfield as well... That is another laughable comment! He was the subject of a multi-million pound bid during the transfer window. I must have missed money bags Roman walking through SUFC's doors.

Where did I mention what Campbell will earn next year? All I know is he will never ever accept £2,000k a week!

Bryan Robson will talk to Steve Watson, Kanu, Kevin Campbell and Chris Kirkland to see who relishes the challenge of attempting an immediate return to the Premier$hite. “The thing in my favour is that financially we can keep everybody,” the manager said.

And no I am not on anything - Just realism. Something you are clearly lacking!

Campbell doesn't have to stay in football. I believe he has a very lucrative side business, possibly his own record lable from what I recall.

Horsefield isn't a possibility unless we stump up the million quid that Sheffield United foolishly agreed to pay West Brom for him before deciding that they don't want him.

Byfield apparently wants to move towards the Midlands which could rule him out. He isn't a Goater-like player anyway.

Fallon could be an outsider if Swansea don't go up. He fits the bill and it wouldn't surprise me if we matched the sort of fee that the Jacks paid for him in January at least once this summer. I imagine that Beckett will still be in Tilly's mind should he now be willing to move south.

Eastwood looks so much more dangerous when alongside a targetman. Much as I rate someone like Agogo or Hayter, if you play someone like that alongside Eastwood then Freddy ends up being the man in the middle, leading the line when you want him dropping off and playing from there. Thats why I think we could already have the best possible partner for Eastwood already in the squad - Lee Bradbury.

This is a stab in the dark but whatabout Dougie Freedman and Dennis Oli to help out Eastwood and Gray. Lawson to go out on loan.

If Campbell is wanted at West Brom then it becomes a different matter entirely. However, if he isn't then it wouldn't be the money he would be coming for, as has already been pointed out.

As for Horsfield, I reckon he will leave Sheff U this summer for about half a million at most and go to a Championship side and do well. That sort of figure should surely be within range when you consider the massive increase in television revenue next season. Whether he would go to the Hall on a limited pay structure or not is another matter. And I cannot believe that £2k a week is the top of that structure, for a Championship side.

Maybe some of the better players mentioned won't join but without speculating and discovering whether they would be interested or not, they are never going to come.

Horsfield is still a West Brom player and will probably stay at the Hawthorns now they've been relegated., especially now Kanu's going and Ellington is more than likely to re-join Wigan. Anyway there's no way Tilly and Brush would be happy to pay up to half a million for a 32 year old.

We do need a target man though to replace Goater - more importantly FREDDY needs a target man aslongside him......

So we need a target man, maybe someone we can pick up from a relegated team, they have to be real team players, so as not to upset the great spirit that we have at the Hall just now, tall and a good holder-up and layer-off of the the ball.

Simple, only one candidate needs to be considered, obvious and perfect IMHO.

Drewe Broughton.

You know it makes sense!

Campbell is a great shout IMO, the wages he was previously earning don't come into it.
How much was Goater on at Reading, they're not a poor club by any means?

If Ron & Tilly can bombard Campbell with enough calls & make him feel 'special' then we may have a viable option. (regardless of his record label side biz)

His ability isn't in question.

Oh god no. I've seen him play a few times for Grays and he's barely even League 2 standard, let alone Championship quality.

It does remind me of Stimson's comments about it when we were linked with him last summer... "he can do a lot better than Southend"

Bit of a silly comment there, Stimmo

How about an older guy on his way to retirement with a bit of higher league experience.
Ferguson just got released from Everton. Would certainly add some aggression to the front line.
No thanks , awful attitude , injured more than not ,not hungry anymore , just pure trouble end of .

I would suggest Geoff Horsfield or Kevin Campbell.

The former is not wanted at Sheff U, and the latter will leave the Albion this summer at the end of his contract.  Both are target men with bags of experience and very decent players at Championship level.  Still a season left for Cambell and one or two more than that for Horsfield.
I never thought of Kev Cambpell. Now that would be a good signing for me at this level. I suppose it depends if players are prepared to come here on low wages but big bonuses.
I'm sure I read somewhere he was on £20,000 a week at West Brom!

Be serious!
I thought i heard the average wage in the Championship 1s around £20 k per week ?

As if no-one even had a snigger at that!

I'm so glad that it is a holding up striker we're looking for and not a goalscorer. You can probably find five players good at playing as a taret man for every geunine goalscorer. I would be surprised if we keep the same targets we had last year (e.g. Beckett) and can't see us signing anyone who plays similarly to Eastwood. I think there is also little chance of most of the bigger names mentioned. We have to look at the middle ground between us and Premier$hite level and see what's around. Noel-Williams is a pretty good shout but then I would feel compelled to boo him even as one of our own.

Excellent in the air, he'll often need two defenders marking him, giving room for Eastwood to do what he can. On top of that, he weighs in with a few goals and his touch isn't too shabby.

Having watched Preston, I think if we had someone like Dichio, we could do a lot better than many will expect next season as players like Maher, Eastwood and Gower will get the time they crave.

oooer touchy ! I was in a roundabout way asking what the average wage is for a striker in The Championship ! Sorry i spoke .

Beckett is 90% certain of going to Oldham. I hear all thats needed is the agreement of personal terms and he's there...

Paul Hayes would be an ideal partner for Freddy. Though not experienced, is a "Tilly" style player and is a great target man. Would jump at the chance to sign for us with his local ties.

Paul Furlong would be the man most likely to join if you're looking for experience. Is within our money bracket and situated locally too.

Noel-Williams is a Donkey of Bramble proportions.

Horsfield and Campbell shouts are laughable, way outside of our pay bracket if we're after improving other areas of the squad.

Will definitely need some thinking and shrewd movement on Tilly's behalf, but definitly has my full backing...

On a side note, a Forward we could pick up very cheaply who Tilly and Co could possibly work wonders with is Dean Bowditch. Out of favour and may be released at Ipswich, has bags of Unrealised potential that Tilly could unlock...
