What would you do if we signed Luke McCormick?

Guys you are all very forgiving..... Let's hope its none of our kids, as I suspect we'd feel a lot different!!!!

The Hughes case is different. He fled the scene, didn't report the crash to the authorities therefore leaving those people dead and dying in their car and then denied the charge at his trial. McCormick made a horrific mistake which he has shown nothing but regret for every since.

So you class this as a "mistake" taking away a kids life for the sake of a few beers. Lord O Lord

It is a mistake, someone didn't come up to Luke and say 'you can have a few beers on the house if you kill some kids for me,' he drank drive and the kids deaths was an unfortunate byproduct of that, thousands of people have drinked an driven before and got away with it, but in reality they had just as much chance of killing someone as Luke did.

You can use all the emotive language and tug on our heartstrings all you like but that doesn't change that what happened was a mistake. A horrible, horrific, shocking mistake. A mistake, incidently, which I reckon that a large proportion of drivers have made at one point or other (I don't drive so not me) albeit without the same horrible outcome, but that is by the by.

Its not our place to punish Luke McCormick or anyone else. That's the place of the Courts. They judged him, convicted him and now he has served his time and should be free to attempt to rebuild his life. It's not like anyone will ever let him forget what happened.

Wow that makes it all ok then, all agreed?

I didn't say that, I can't remember if I said it on this forum or to a friend but I suggested that drink drivers should be given the same penalty as Luke regardless of if anyone dies or not, since doing it could potentially kill someone everytime, I see no reason why this shouldn't be the case, having bad luck isn't a crime, the dangerous driving due to alcohol is what can kill people, anyone that drink drives could potentially kill someone and if the penalty was harsher perhaps people would take the law a bit more seriously. However that said Luke never intended to hurt anyone, and as in the eyes of the law he has served his time I see no reason why he shouldn't be able to play again.

have you been drinking? if so please do not drive home

With my driving skills you wouldn't want me driving you home sober! If thats a legitamate question no I'm not drunk, I tend to type on my phone, which can make it hard to see if what I'm saying makes sense sometimes. I will also never drive drunk in case you think I'm trying to make drink driving seem acceptable, when it clearly isn't.

No it doesn't but it means that there are an awful lot of glass houses around.

True, and I can admit to acts of stupidity in the past, none of which have or could have cost a family to be ripped apart, and if I had of done I would have expected more than 3 years and a slapped wrist as a mere mortal member of the public. As someone who has had to deal with the aftermath of accidents caused by drink driving, and seeing first hand the devastation it can cause, I may be a tad bias in my opinion, but I stand by my choice NO McCormick at SUFC, football needs to tidy up its act and it needs to start here. IMO.

Check your facts please, OBL.

A conviction which results in a prison sentence of more than 30 months is never spent in the eyes of the law and must be disclosed if required!

A fact I referred to on the "New Keeper" thread...
I'd have thought that surely that is basic discrimination. An employer should employ the best candidate for the job. I appreciate there are certain jobs where certain checks have to be made and that someone failing those checks is not going to be given the job (well, hopefully) but other than that, when a conviction/sentence has been spent then their employability becomes on a level par with other candidates.
ooh I love it when OBL does the bold AND underline and is still wrong!
Well, not wrong as such actually...and judging by the speed with which you normally absorb my posts, you had obviously missed that I'd already alluded to this fact.

Please add this to your definition of mistake, "complete **** & nob jockey" - im sure you'll find it in the Oxford English, if you look are enough

I'd rather him not come to my club!

Maybe not, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a mistake. A mistake of the worst kind, but a mistake nonetheless.

He should be allowed to play again if not at Southend then somewhere else. He has served his time and should be allowed another chance . He WILL live with what he has done everyday for the rest of his life .do you think he is stupid enough not to realise he f%$£ed up big time. Also not his fault the judge was lenient on him at trial,he should have got longer but didnt ,so he has served the sentence handed down to him . I have children and do not really want him at Southend But if he comes he comes and I will not be chanting murderer or child killer but will look upon him as our keeper.

And I am sure that whereever he ends up, that is all LM would ask for.

Well said DOLL, there's a lot of people using emotive words on this thread so I think your unbiased view as a father of a young lad is quite refreshing.
