What was Peter Clarke doing?

It was bad enough that he was on his heels for the first goal and missed a header for the second, but what an earth was he doing throwing their keeper to the ground in the penalty area in an off the ball incident?

The keeper might have deserved a kicking (and certainly deserved his red card for being a complete ****), but do it outside the penalty area because if the ref had seen that it would have been 3-3. Completely brainless play.

As a Daggers fan behind the goal, the lino actually signalled a foul for a pen but the ref ignored it!! The ref wasnt clever tho, luckily didnt spoil a top cup tie.

i couldn't understand why the keeper went up with 5 mins to play in normal time anyway. Sure, in injury time its ok. What was worse was there was 2 centre halves staying back to cover for the loony. They would have been better sending one of those up and leaving the goalie where he was.

The thing is that even their coaching staff were screaming at Roberts to get back in goal but he just ignored them.

That really was a crazy couple of minutes.

All very silly but to be fair to robbo, we do f all from set plays and he actually looks a threat!! still the only keeper to score in open play in the cup.
i hope tilly or barrett gets hold of clarke tho, you dont need pr icks like him.
all the best, hope you get a decent draw.

I obviously didn't see all of it, what I saw was Peter Clarke giving him an almighty shove and him ending up on his backside. At what stage did the "headbutt" occur?

It was pretty farcical though and fair play to the two defenders who tracked back brilliantly covering for the idiot.

IMO it only served to even up the fact that it should have been a foul on Barrett from which D&R scored their second. Cant have it all ways.

Right result, wrong scoreline. 3-2 would have been fairer.

Plus didnt 2 players jump into the crowd (could have been a steward in a yellie jacket)...and were they both booked?

This is exactly why peter clarke is a legend... he shoved him, i would have preferred a headbutt, or punch to the head, but a shove was ok... to stall roberts getting back!

hahaha... then he got him sent off!! excellent!

I had a very clear view of the sending off but not the original tangle. It was a classic, footballing head-to-head with no headbut as such. Personally I was very disappointed to see Clarke go down in the way he did, especially when you consider the endless discussions we've had about Duguid and Thornton.

Maybe we're at a stage in the game where we just have to accept all players do this, at all clubs, and should stop pretending to be so outraged when we are the victims.

Agree with the comments about Duguid and Thornton. We cannot have it both ways. If Clarke has feigned it to get Roberts sent off, then I would be disappointed. We've no arguments the next time some diver costs us a player.

Comments like that from Cliffs shows how far Southend have sunk as a Club really.

Fair play to Barret for leading Clarke out the way, shame you have not got a few more proper players like him in your side and you might start climbing the table.

As Lord whats he called has said, you wouldn't like it if that situation happened the other way round.

Fair do's mate - we were incensed just like you at the start of the season by that cheating **** Thornton who plays for one of your local 'big' clubs .

We can't have it both ways

Errrr, it has....several times.

And I dont really think that you put alot of thought into your second sentence. Infact probably no thought at all.

I am sure you lot have never profited from a poor bit of refereeing...a dubious pen, freekick or sending off......hmmmmmm....sour grapes mate....

And we don't. Didn't see that part of the incident, if he did feign it then I'm quite sure words will be had by Tilson.

Yeah, I have seen the Thornton incident and you're right, was another shocker. Player and ref were totally out of order for that one. Mind you, Thornton has always been pondlife and Orient are a joke Club, so that doesn't really surprise me. Expected better of a Club like Southend with proper people like Tilson and Barret involved.

As you said yourself though Barrett lead Clarke away. What else was he expected to do? Be thankful Maher wasn't playing he'd have probably got involved...and not in a good way!

I'm sure Tilson will deal with it when they go back for the next training session.
