Yeah, 150ft up a transmitter mast in a force 8 fixing a stabilizer line. Very bland. You never really get it, do you.I can remember him being incredibly bland on Caroline.
Perhaps not but I can certainly remember Kenny Everett and John Peel being much more interesting to listen to in those days. (Not that I was ever a grear fan of either).Yeah, 150ft up a transmitter mast in a force 8 fixing a stabilizer line. Very bland. You never really get it, do you.
Ripped out the foundations of my old extension and found this? Anyone care to offer an approximate date?
IIRC around that time, they were between 20p-25p for a pack of 20.Definitely Players No 6, probably early 70s as I was smoking them before 1975 when I was saving up to get married and they were cheap beyond belief.
About that, and still available from cigarette machines.IIRC around that time, they were between 20p-25p for a pack of 20.
I remember going to the Palace bingo as a kid with my mum. She would play bingo, and I would go down the seafront playing the machines. A lot of skill machines and pushers in those days, and I had a few coups/tricks, so I used to do alright. Anyway, the cigarette machine in the bingo hall was very popular, and so was that Players No6 Filter Virginia. I remember them having two columns for the packs of that cigarette. It seemed that everyone smoked in the 60s in the bingo hall. The Palace was massive. I used to come out of there coughing and smelling of smoke. I got myself a watch in the end so I could time it to almost the minute when she would come out, and I would meet her in Rainbow Corner Amusements, next to the Palace bingo. My mum smoked Consulate Menthol, but started on Players No6. My dad smoked Woodbines. Amazing that the adverts for smoking made it look like smoking was fine and cool. Even the cigar adverts made cigars cool, Lol.About that, and still available from cigarette machines.

I can remember going to bingo sessions at the Ritz with my late Mum.My advice FWIW would have been to lay off the seafront machines& the fagsI remember going to the Palace bingo as a kid with my mum. Yes, my mum did the Ritz, The Palace, and Franks bingo. She preferred The Palace because the prize money was the biggest because of the large attendance. So just getting a line, she was well happy. A full house was happy days for her. As for the machines, I never played the one arm bandits, only the skill machines and pushers of the 60s and early 70s. Like I said, I honestly did well. It payed for so many things. I had a games room in our house, with all the games of the time, plus scaletrix, Subbuteo, mini snooker, etc. Then all the clothes and shoes of the time. My mates kept asking where am I getting the money from. I kept telling them the seafront. I ended up proving it to a few of them, Lol. Once they replaced the skill machines with one arm bandits and later push button fruit machines, that was the end of that. As for smoking, thankfully, I never took it up.I can remember going to bingo sessions at the Ritz with my late Mum.My advice FWIW would have been to lay off the seafront machines& the fags
