Question What is making you happy today?

Ticket sorted for Spurs v Olympiakos.Complete 92 again well 91 at the moment because of sad demise of Bury

Good work! I set a 5k PB of 22.43 last June and I'm way off that right now, but I'm more focussed on distance at the minute with 10 mile and half marathon races coming up. I couldn't imagine running a sub-20 5k.

I'm just getting back into it again and easing myself in with 5k's I will eventually get back into 10k's and half's but thats probably going to be next year.

My PB's are:

5k - 19.58
10k - 41.58
Half Marathon - 1hr 33.20

I'd like to beat all of those and think I could probably get close but as I get older I am finding it a real struggle. Plus I like biscuits, cake and sweets too much!

Yeah, know someone like that too. Gives me something to aspire to I guess.

Have you seen the best times at your local Park Run? Some of them are sickening and it’s even worse when you watch Mo Farah doing it!

I do look occasionally - Adam Hickey does my local Park Run and he's crazy quick. As for Mo - well he's just superhuman. He runs a marathon only 10 minutes slower than I run a half, and he runs a half marathon only 10 minutes slower than I run 10k!

I saw a bit somewhere, where they mimicked Mo Farah's speed for a 10K on a treadmill and seasoned runners gave up after a minute or so.

Those are pretty impressive times.

The think I find about getting older isn't that I don't have it in me any more, it's that it takes longer to recover from setbacks. Even taking a couple of weeks off for a holiday (and not even illness or injury) can take a good month to recover from now

I bet Mo Farah would fail to complete a chain pub gutbuster mixed grill.

We all have different talents.

I found a website that predicts marathon times based on 5k, 10k and half marathon times. Obviously the longer the sample run, the more accurate it is. At the time it was predicting 3.44 for a marathon for me so I did my own calculation.

Me for 10k: say 50 mins
Mo for 10k: say 30 mins

Mo for a marathon: say 2.10 (130mins)
Therefore:

Option 1: me for a marathon: (130/30) * 50 = 3.37
Option 2: me for a marathon: 50-30: I'm only 20 minutes off the world record!

!

Back in the 80's when I was at my peak, 5k's weren't run anywhere. 10k's started locally with the Kodak sponsored one at Southend around mid 80's.
I ran that one in just under 38 mins.
My best 1/2 Marathon time was 81 mins at Canvey in 86.
Best 15 miler at Rochford, again in 86 at 97 mins
And best Marathon out of the 13 I ran during the 80's was 3hrs 7mins at Harlow, again in 86 the year I peaked at 29.
Ran my last 1/2 marathon at Southend 5 years ago, first one i'd done for 15 years, 2 weeks before my 57th birthday.
To be honest I realised that day, my distance running days had come to an end.
Still go out 4 times per week, only up to 20 mins, apart from my once weekly 40 min hill & steps session from Leigh Station up to Belton Way, when I do 9 ups & 9 back downs. 6 on the slopes & 3 on the steps.
Hill work is so beneficial for lower body strength & stamina.

thtas about where I was at 25 years ago...
5K 19.30 (Track)
10k 40.36

it tailed off above that
Half 1.32
20M 2.42
marathon 4.06

After the marathon I had had enough so told the coach at the club I was packing it in, we had a chat and he told me that based on what he had seen in the training sessions , distance wasn't my bag, so set me on a training plan for shorter stuff, Ended up with PBs of 12.2 for 100M , 25.00 for 200 and 57 for 400M , and was competing Southern league Track and then did the World Vets at 41

Love to get back into it, but a badly ruptured Achilles and complications got me a non running , especially no sprinting EVER message from the consultant

Contains swears.....but funny IMHO.

Blinds 2 Go.

Got a quote from Hillary’s for two blinds and it came out at over £400. Decided to shop around found blinds 2 go and got the 2 blinds for under half the price and just fitted them. They were really simple and easy to fit and look pretty decent. Never thought something like that would make me happy!
