What is it with Tilson?

As soon as he made the foul I thought that he was going to go for it. He'd just picked up a silly caution and needed to watch himself. The problem was that the initial yellow for dissent had come about due to a mounting sense of injustice on our part as the referee seemed completely unwilling to give us any decision.

Cheers there Beefy. I can see why he'd get annoyed, but would still expect better.

Thing that gets me is this isn't the first shocker that ref's had. Surely the management would've been aware of his tendancies and told the players about it. There's no point getting wound up if you know the ref is prone to mistakes AND card-happy.

i think the way he talks. honest and gives a bit of insite into the game. i never meant tilly should slag off players, no manager should do that. but just a all around better interview. it just seem tilly always avoids a question but i suppose this is just because he is ****e at interviews.

I actually enjoy the interviews with our leader.I like the fact i can tell if he's being backed into a corner and i love the way he wears his heart on his sleeve concerning our club.
Steve is hardly a sterile p.c. clone who has a ready thought-out script for the interviewer.
Ever spoke to him one-to-one as a fan?He often gives a great insight into what's going on and reveals too much i think.
Try hard enough and you can read into what he is saying to the press.

Just read on the OS that Tilly is unhappy with the ref today, and that he can't fault the players effort against Swansea etc.

He can never say the better team won, or that he got the tactics wrong etc.

1. We had a sending off I think he has some basis for blaming the ref.

2. If he did say the better team (with one extra player) won as they were better you would be slating him for that.

League one next season me thinks!

What makes you think we have a divine right to be in the Championship. We are the 7th or 8th biggest club in league one, a top 6 finish will be a good season.

We should push for promotion and have a decent chance of going up but to think it should be guaranteed is very niave.

Still you had us down for league two so what on earth are you moaning about ?

I hate coming on here when we lose.... Steve Tilson is the best Manager I have seen at Southend United FC and it makes me proud that we have a local boy who cares for our club.... I hope he stays with us for many more years....

If we make the playoffs this year it would will be amazing to be honest... I for one knew we may struggle this season coming down was a massive sucker punch for any manager and his players......

I have only just looked on SZ because I knew all the moaners would be out.

I didn't make the match but listened on the radio.
Considering we only had 10 men for almost an hour and we were playing the team at the top of the league, I think we were lucky not to get completely drubbed.
Another good penalty save from Collis and some back to the walls defending kept it down to a reasonable figure. The ref sounded dire but we are still 6th in the table 5 points from the top.

That's pretty good isn't it. One more game before Xmas then all to play for in the new Year.

We were crap. The ref was crap. The weather was crap. The tea was really, really crap.

But these things happen. We definitely missed a target man second half - no-one to hold things up for us.

Collis did well though, making several excellent stops and saving a penalty. Otherwise our GD would have taken a pounding. Maher did well too, and Francis at least gave it a go second half when he came on...

yes, frankly. a couple of us mentioned after the game that Harry would have been a better option for the second half. Not that he would have done much with the ball but he at least might have prevented it from coming back to our end so quickly. I think i'm correct in saying that Hoops was on the bench ahead of him, which seems counter-intuitive as he and Charlie Mac are relatively similar types of players. It's one I'd query with Tilly, although to be fair the gameplan wasn't working so badly until Bailey's red, which the manager couldn't have been expected to have planed for.

In hindsight Kightly going does look like a poor move, at the time we released him though I would have backed one of the ball boys to win a 50/50 with him. Kightly is the only Tilson player released who has done better for himself since leaving. Everyone else is playing for a lesser club in League 1 or a lot lower. Even if Kightly did get as good as he is now, in the England U21 squad etc - do you think he would still be here?
