The large lady that sat next to me on the train this morning. Taking up half of my seat as well as all of hers.

Halloween as I'm sure you know is an old British festival, predating Guy Fawkes Night. Oh and also Guy Fawkes Night is still a few days away.

Indeed, but it's only in the last 20 (?) years that it's come back into vogue. I certainly didn't dress up or go round houses when I was a kid - but I love it, really do. You can stick your bonfire night, burning Catholics ain't my thing.

I never did the trick or treat thing as a youngster, but by the time I was a teenager me and my friends were totally obsessed with horror films and we tried to make the most of Halloween, whiting up our faces and going out on the streets to try and cause whatever mayhem we could get away with. As you say though, it was nothing like the big industry it's become over the last 2 decades. I still love it too.

House of Fraser - bloody useless! Ordered two suitcases in store just over a month ago, as only one was in stock we said we'd pick them both up together two weeks later. Duly advised that they'd arrived and hubby called in to collect them on a return journey from Gatwick.

Got them home and tried to re-set the locks on them (no instructions how to do so) and only one would work, no help from the store on the phone other than suggesting we return it to the store and they'd check it and re-order another one for us to collect if it was faulty. No help from the online agent so ended up tweeting them and having long conversations with a couple of staff there. They arranged for us to return it with a prepaid sticker through the post office, which hubby did, only to be told it was too big for the post office to take on the label provided.

Further discussion with agent via the Twitter DM function and it was agreed it would be collected from my work. This happened two weeks ago today. We'd been told they'd check to see if it was faulty and then refund us and we could then re-order it at the same price.

Having heard nothing, I've messaged them last night and have been told it was refunded on 21st October - why the heck didn't anyone let us know that???!!!

Oh yeah we had a great time last night wandering round with the kids - some great houses had gone the extra mile.

No clowns though, which was disappointing. oh and fireworks, sometimes it's good - going to the Rye procession on the 12th which is good fun.

I was very disappointed not to encounter a killer clown. I went to see John Carpenter at The Troxy last night and I deliberately left myself with a 1 mile walk from Stepney to the venue in the hope of seeing some decent Halloween action on the streets of East London. Saw nothing until I got to The Troxy where there was some ace fancy dress.

I'm quite happy to do both. We're going to friends for our own fireworks party Saturday night. We alternate every year, and have a ball.

John Carpenter - excellent- have you heard his latest album? Was the show a mix of film scores and his own stuff?

Meh, go to the local display that the council will have spent a bundle on on Saturday but after 10 minutes or so I've had enough.

Yes, I have both of the Lost Themes albums, great stuff. He basically played the main themes of all the big guns, mixed in with tracks from Lost Themes. The band were great, it sounded amazing. If I were to level any criticism it would be that I'd have preferred to hear more music from the most popular films. 15-20 minute suites from Halloween, Escape From New York and Assault on Precinct 13 would have been great. That's how Fabio Frizzi did it when I saw him on Halloween 3 years ago.

Saves on the central heating chucking the odd catholic on the fire. They seem to slow burn so much better than baptists.

Reaching a level of maturity where the hair in my ears and nose goes quicker and longer than the top of my head, pah!
