Again a whinge about the weather, had a fishing match planned tomorrow on a boat moored at Wallasea. With 60mph gusts predicted for tomorrow it's been cancelled. This means I have to give up a Saturday's evening to fish the last match of the season.

I really feel for you and your department , but why is it always before Christmas that they lay human beings off .

Because the 'brown noses' are only concerned about there own?. My last company will be laying off around 35 good people next week.
Yet the 2 top dogs' still continue to pay themselves 12k per month with a yearly bonus!. The money they have, if they took a 50% cut they would not still not have to worry about money for ever more.
And the money saved would still keep at least another 7 people in work.
Unfortunately greed is paramount, and it is their poor management that has led to this situation.

Took over an hour and a half yesterday to get over the French border at La Jonquera.

Anyone who thinks this sort of thing makes anyone safer is living in cloud cukoo land.We weren't asked to produce our passports, nor was our car searched.Did see a random spot check on some poor sod driving a large white van but that hardly justifies all the agrro.

I'd be interested to see some statistics from the French government as to how many suspected terrorists they've apprehended at LJ or arms the'y've found since these "security" measures were introduced.I suspect the answer is a big fact zero in both cases.

Went over to Adenkerke in Belgium last saturday. Tipped off in advance & turned off motorway at Dunkirk exit. Good move as Border control on Motorway between France & Belgium queue was at least 4 miles in both lanes. Could see this from the 'B' road we were on.
This was on a Saturday, queues on a weekday must be even worse with Freight etc. Not saying it's not necessary but this will be with us for the foreseeable future, so give yourselves plenty of extra time during holiday periods.

We were booked on a coach trip to Bruges last weekend, it was cancelled because the Coach company said they could not guarantee we would be there in enough time to get off the coach before we had to turn around.

Beijing has issued it's very first 'Red Alert' for Tuesday to Thursday. Schools and businesses to shut down. FFS their emissions and polution is an absolute disgrace. It's not only helping to kill the planet, it's killing or giving health problems to their own people. How much longer will they let this go on?

Look on the bright side though, it should be cleared up by xmas eve...

That's the plan. Came down really ill on 23rd last year which ruined crimble for everyone so at least I will probably shake it off by the big day this time.

Having anther go at packing in the fags very soon.

China is a major problem. Disregard for animals, disregard for their population, disregard for the world. Have said before, if they want to be considered a developed country, they have an awful lot of work to do on all of the above, and until they do we should stop buying their (often inferior and frequently fake) products.

Morally you are probably right. But with one of the largest economies in the world, nearly all of the Western world wanting to be friends with it and the lion's share of the non fake top quality electrical goods coming from there, you ain't going to see too much done on the bad stuff I'm afraid.

And that's without China being the only country that can keep N Korea in check and it having a really big army. Unfortunately, size does matter sometimes.

China are already putting the brakes on their growth and are looking to develop their service economy and reduce their heavy manufacturing/exporting.

Don't want to do a Barna, but I went to a lecture at work yesterday from Vince Cable and he had some interesting comments to make about China - in particular the significant risk of the shadow banking economy being over-leveraged and a potential crash. Cable doesn't think the banking reforms/regulations in China are coming through quickly enough.

I attended lectures by Vincent Cable and Gordon Brown when they were still famous!

That is such a "bloke" thing to do. We're ill, we're going to make damn sure everyone else suffers with us!

Good luck with the fags...

However bad China is in terms of polution, who's actually to blame? The Chinese, or countries like us who have transferred nearly all their manufacturing to China? Everything that is made in China would have to be made somewhere, unless we're prepared to go without, or even accept higher prices.

It's not as simple as we would all like.

(And before you think i'm being all holier than thou, I accept I'm just as bad as anyone else. I don't want to pay over the odds for something, so I'm happy to let China produce it cheaper.)
