Question What are you reading?

Graham Bond:The Mighty Shadow.Harry Shapiro.
A warts and all biography of (probably) Britain's greatest R and B musician.Well written and better than (the same qauthor's) more recent biog. of Alexis Korner.

All hell broke loose - Max Hastings
History of WW2 with lots of the now declassified secrets written down. For example a US officer took the full plans for Op Market Gdn into battle and the Germans had them from him within hours and so knew exactly what was the goal at Arneham.
And French Vichy bombed Gibraltar and agreed for only bribing Franco stopped Germans to using Spain as a base.

Nerve - By the late Dick Francis - Considering this is nearly 50 years old it stands up pretty well - with certian aspects of the Murkier side of the racing world still relevent today.

Any good? It's sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read but it looks like a big old undertaking. Would take it on holiday but I've only got a 20kg baggage allowance!

Bernard Cornwell - The Last Kingdom - Famous for his Sharpe series he has also written various other historical novels - this is set in the 9th Century & mentions the local dwelling of Beamfleot (Benfleet). Mr Cornwell was brought up in Thundersley & it's nice that he has managed to work in a bit of local colour in his works.
