North Mississippis Allstars Duo.Live in the Hills(the official bootleg).Picked this up at their gig here last night.Excellent bottleneck guitar and vocals from Jim Dickinson.

Let them talk

Hugh Laurie.
Whisper it but this is is actually quite good.It will upset quite a lot of Jazz/Blues purists(and I doubt if it'll get reviewed in Living Blues)but HL plays quite a mean jazz/New Orleans Blues piano, his phrasing is excellent and there are some huge names on the record including Irma Thomas,DR John,Allen Toussaint and even Tom Jones.Recommended.

The Bad Sheherds

The Bad Shepherds.By Hook or by Crook.Their (always difficult) second is almost as good as their first. While I loved the energy of the punk originals, first time around, it's rather nice to be able to make out all the words and not just the chorus.
Particularly like Sounds of the Suburbs and their take on the Smiths Panic.

Martin Carthy.A Collection(1999).Excellent.
Topic have just put out a new 2 disc 'Essential' compilation - great stuff, makes you realise that in a lot of ways he just keeps getting better with age...

Yes just bought the album and listened to Martin being interviewed by Mike Harding on the Radio 2 folk show - will be seeing Martin at Leigh Folk and with Dave Swarbrick at Sidmouth Folk (plus Mrs Cs faves Show of Hands)

OK, we all know BW is damaged goods but he's still capable of playing and singing hugely enjoyable music.Perfect summer stuff. Not as good as the Beach Boys but what is?
