West Ham

Murkey you would have loved it then when we did beat them in the same league. It was a great night.

Yes, I can image this would be the most enjoyable night of every SUFC fans live, only if I was there to witness it

Hopefully I will get that chance in 2007/08 season - Image what every Southenders felt if we dish out the Col Ewes treatment to Hammers at Upton park

I hate all so called 'fans' of big clubs who glory hunt with their replica shirt and Sky Sports subscription and then take the pi$$ out of people who support their home town club by actually (shock, horror) attending the matches.

As there are far more of these people in claret and blue than any other team colours I hate W*** H** more than any ever team. No they are not rivals in a footballing sense but when it comes down to territory and fanbase then they are more of a threat to us than Col Ewe ever were or will be.

My hatred of all things Hamster is, I admit, not based on any rational thinking but then neither is my love of Southend. That's football, we love our team unconditionally and (many of us anyway) hate at least one team for whatever reason.

.....and if they get through to the FA Cup Final I shall be out in a pub in town wearing my Southend shirt as Chelsea humiliate them in front of the nation. I shall not be cheering for Chelsea but against the Hamsters and giving back some of the abuse they've handed out to us over the years.

Foe

They're easily our biggest rival for local support and the biggest barrier to the growth of Southend United FC. For every respectful Shammer I've met there must have been a good two or three obnoxious tw&ts, the likes of whom probably put local youngsters off from chosing their local club in these days when according to parts of the media football doesn't exist below fourth place in the Premier$hite.

Foe,

I used to stand in the west bank in the 80's with people from school, a few were West Ham fans and would support us until we let a goal in, then they would take the pi$$. I found thier "support" patronsing and turned me against them

I've got a mate who is a Wet Sham fan whos going to the game against Gillingham. Although never actually attending any games this season, he has been following our progress, so I invited him along and he gladly accepted. For him to choose to come see us play, we must be doing something right!

Having heard about Eastwood at his trials at Wet Spam he wants to see his qualities in the flesh. Also, he has assured me he will be cheering on Southend 100% for many reasons, including the essex link. A bit ambitious, but he wanted a promotion celebration on that day.... erm no I don't think so.

West Ham are a good team and I like watching them play on the tv. I just dont agree with the many southend/hamers fans about supporting both.

Silent shrimper.

Why not...

saturdays were invented for football i cant get to as many West Ham away games so i come to Roots Hall to get my fix as you were now i never been one just to sit there and watch the game and i want Southend to win so i will get behind them. I will be in the West stand on saturday shouting myself horse.

Make the right move there .... its cost £53 to get into Upton Park these day.

Quote[/b] (Whatever @ April 05 2006,12:02)]Hmm

I don't really see them as friend or foe. They're just there.
The only problem I have is with some of their supporters, who insist on belittling us because we're not in the premier league and they are, and then talk of nothing else - despite the fact they've never been to Upton Park in their life...
That sums up my views 100%.

Hate is such a wasted emotion. Far better to pour your energies into loving things than hating things - not least because if you hate something it shows people that you care.

For example, between 2001-03, fat Jeff King and the Canvey boys got up our noses a hell of a lot. We really felt quite antipathetic to them at that time. It tells you a lot about how far we'd fallen, and how far they'd risen.

If there's one thing that must hurt Jeff to his marrow now, it's the fact that 99.9% of Shrimpers fans are now supremely indifferent to what's happening at Park Lane. Most of us probably hope they do OK because "it's good for Essex football..."

As any marriage guidance counsellor will tell you, when a couple hate each other, the relationship can still be saved. Once they're past caring, once they're into total indifference, then the relationship is doomed.

Most of us are fairly indifferent as to the fortunes of those clubs other than Southend. Since I didn't grow up with the p*ss being taken out of me by Hammers fans (because I didn't get interested in Southend until I was 17), I am pretty indifferent to them.

However, as Uxbridge Shrimper has said, I'd rather they won the cup than Chelsea or Liverpool. At least they've got some Englishmen in their ranks. It's why a large part of me doesn't really care if Arsenal wins the Champions League... in what way would that be a victory for English football?

Anyhow, I'm wildly off topic now. I don't hate the Hammers; on the contrary, if they want to come and put money through our turnstiles and tills, then good on them so far as I am concerned.

I used to hate them but am pretty ambivalent to them, these days.

Actually think they are doing very well this season, as I fully expected them to go straight back down.

Which of course is completely patronising and bugs the hell out of me.
What was your answer? Mine would be, because I do! The thing is the majority of so called big club supporters never ever have seen a game, but cant bare the thought of bucking the trend. I never supported a football team until one of my mates who supported W.Ham took me Roots hall in 1981! I was hooked and have supported them ever since.

The thing is, if where you are born generally dictates the team you follow then (and this hurts) I was born and lived till I was 15 half a mile from brisbane road and we all no who play there! But as I never supprted them or went to any games I am a shrimper through and through! Do I hate Orient or any other supporters? the answer is ....I dont care what there team does as long as it doesnt affect me!

My son is 13, I took him to his 1st game aged 5. His support is unswerving. He wears his colours all the time,at every soccer school when all the lads giving him s**t because he nows that most of them would actually like to see a football game but dont want to loose face by supporting a lower league club. As for W.Ham shop opening in southend, why did they bother? A trip to lakeside in my shirt always makes me feel better especially when I go into the hammers shop to buy my inlaw a christmas  present!

See, I could never bring myself to actually step foot in there such is my aversion to them.

My other rule is I will never let anyone cross the threshold of my house wearing anything to do with W*** H**, they would either have to remove the offending garment or - at a push - have to cover it up.

You have to have standards you know!

Foe, most definitely.

I hate them as they are cockney scum and think they are the nuts when it comes to being "Premier" league.

Each time i end up talking to someone and they mention being a fan of them, i remind them of Stan's cross and OOOOOHHHH BRETTY ANGEL rifling the bsll into the top of the net.

tounge.gif

My ex in laws used to be Upton park season ticket holders (packed it in after 30 + years when the Bond scheme came in) I used to go in the shop in southend once a year for xmas prezzies, alway bought them on my Southend United MBNA Credit card (anyone else remember those) on year I went in with my kids, the could have only been about 7 and 9. my daughter spent the whole time in there asking to leave because the place smelt and at the checkout my 7 year old son said "oh thats a shame" when I asked what he was talking about he pointed at the sign which said "All Breakages must be paid for"....
Obviously well brought up

Why 'cockney scum'? whats your definition of that, anyone who grew up supporting them? only those born within the sound of bow bells?
