As we knew from some weeks back West Ham were, according to The Sun, Interested in Kane Ferdinand with an offer of £500,000 mentioned.

Today in the paper on page 60 there is a story aboiut The Hammers wanting to sign Rhodes from Huddersfield. At the end of the article it appears they are still keen on Ferdinand.

As debated yesterday Many would cash in on him if a decent bid came in. and if likely Timlin signs up.

I guess time will tell.

I think we should bite their hands off if that is the offer. He shows some nice touches but doesn't impose himself. £450,000 of that fee is for the name!!!

The problem is that the deal would be 500k but it would be very unlikely that we'd receive that amount as an outright fee. It would be a deal with say 100k up front and then 200k after 50 league appearances, etc. West Ham would know that signing a player from the lower leagues is always a bit of a gamble so they'd cover their arses by spreading the cost like this and only paying if he actually turns out to be any good.

What I have been impressed with with Ron Martin is he always tends to insist on sell-on percentages which in recent years have certainly helped.

depends where the sell-on money has gone :net:

500K From what ive seen of him i would accept 50k its only the name thats getting him noticed.

I think it's a little unfair to say there's interest in Kane just because of his name. To a point there is an element of truth in this because if he's like his relatives ( especially Rio) in terms of ability they would want to check him out. But I don't think teams will snap him up purely on the "name" basis. They wouldn't be so naive and will have scouted many times ( which they have done) to see if he is at least three quarters decent. If teams come to the conclusion he is then they'll take a chance on him. In my honest opinion being groomed by a bigger team in a one of the top leagues I'd take a punt on him. And yes this is also tahing on board I've seen him play many, many times.

Gonna hit you with some Pringello facts on this.

Ferdinand is the lowest rated regular team member, despite being joint 3rd highest goalscorer, with an average rating over the season of 5.98.
He is only rated ahead of JJ, Crawford, James-Lewis and Bentley who have played bit parts.
Ferdinand has made 1 Man of the Match performance all season in the win over Daggers where he scored a brace.

So by the looks of things, if we were to lose one central midfielder, Kane would be the smallest loss.

Good stats..actually it would be good if you could do a thread with all the "half season stats" for all the players if that is possible Jon?

not knocking that statistic. But it may well be kane needs a move to a higher level team to push on. Then he really can have his abilities tested.

Got to say that on this one I side with the scouts who have been queuing up to watch him.

I was a little sceptical of his promise last year when he was deployed as purely a defensive midfielder as I mistakenly thought he'd already reached his ceiling.

But now he's blossoming into the complete package. Our best all-round midfielder since Nicky Bailey, who was a million pound player and you lot want to give him away for £50k or £100k.

They are different players as Bailey's got more drive than Ferdinand, but Ferdinand has a better touch and is more of a goal threat. But what they both share is a superb reading of the game that marks them out as players destined for a higher level.

Ferdinand's strength is that everything he does is unnoticed. The way Kane ghosts into the penalty area unnoticed is a thing of beauty. And it's so unnoticed that you lot don't even realise that he's our leading scorer in the league. As a teenager. From midfield. He doesn't get noticed for his defensive work (which is top notch) because he just closes down and doesn't dive in. He doesn't go chasing the ball like Kalala is prone to, but he knows hows to hold his defensive position and force players into unnoticed errors. His passing isn't flashy but it's considered, measured and consequently goes unnoticed. He doesn't seem to beat players, but he knows how to receive a ball and makes it look easy so he doesn't have to beat a player.

Other than a couple of times when he's been caught in possession (mainly in the first half against Oxford), can anyone remember him actually making a mistake? Can anyone remember him being caught out of position? Misplacing a pass? That's why he's anonymous, because he's not making the mistakes to be remembered by. Instead he's efficiently linking play or closing down, invariably making the right decision.

He's played 12 months of first team football and in that time we've been demonstrating promotion winning form, having previously been a mid-table side. That's not all down to him, but he's an important part of that. He won't be appreciated until he's gone and people then maybe start to wonder why our play has become more disjointed, why our defence is more porous.

I just said in an other thread Mohsni should play DCM, just behind the midfield. It's a defensive role which is were he's best and Ferdinand done well last season when Easton was behind him protecting the defence.

Well get the best out of Ferdinand I think, if he has more freedom and the same with the rest of the midfield.

Just another note for people they have said "... our style of play" - Hoofball is hardly a style and is barely a state of play. I took my Dad to watch a game, his comments were "It's good Pub football". Even when we were top of the league I was leaving Roots Hall, unsatisfied which is odd...

Not a pun to people that did say that. Just tired of the way we're playing, I think we're better than that and I don't think we'll win a league that way. It's too easy to play against when the tactics are so rigid.

Basically Grant, Sawyer and Harris all to stay otherwise we're a lost cause. Even if we do get promotion, who's going to be more influential?

Rant over...

Great minds think alike and all that, I'm developing a half year report which will be published after the Wimbledon game.
