Wayne Grays' offer

Wayne is a League 2 player and nothing more IMHO. Can't quite see what you see in him TTK. He has terrible anticipation and awareness of the game around him, has a poor first touch more often than not and spends more time sitting on his arse than he does doing anything worthwhile. He got one goal from open play in going on 8 months for crying out loud!

Thanks for that goal Wayne but adios.

Oh and those wanting him to get more money, he was on what I'd regard as a very decent contract at League 2 level when we signed him so it's no wonder they don't want to give him a raise.

Are you really a Shrimper in disguise??  Haven't Borient got a site like this, or as good??
No, ours is a ****-load busier than this, but variety is the spice of life, what what?
Which site Jonny? Do tell...

I think Jonny is referring to the messageboard on Orient's Official Site, which I have to admit is very good. It's a free-for-all, so for example you have threads speculating on Gabriel Zakuani's future alongside threads debating the merits of George Galloway. And it is probably the fastest moving board I've ever seen.

Seems like people on here are very quick to jump on Wayne Gray's back! What has he done wrong?

If Tilly/Brush had him already signed up for next season, then IMHO you wouldn't see such negative posts about him on here.

Alltogether now, WAYNE GRAY IS THE NEW PELE!!!!

I don't think anyone is getting on his back- it's not anything directed personally at Wayne, it's just differences of opinion with regards his value to the club. Tilly and Brush have made him an offer based on their assessment of this and it's up to Wayne now.... If he signs, great; if he doesn't, good luck to him.

I think some people are forgetting that Wayne Gray already has experience of Championship football with both Swindon Town and the now-defunct Wimbledon FC. He scored a total of - wait for it! - three goals at that level and only really found his scoring 'prowess' (to use the word extremely loosely) when he joined Leyton Orient on loan in League Two at the end of 2001 and promptly banged in five in five games.  Maybe Tilson / Brush know something we don't? I mean why keep a player whose strike rate is LESS than Tes Bramble?!

Whose, Michael, whose

Back to the point in hand, this is no time for sentiment. Wayne is an average player with a bit of pace. We can do better.

Indeed we can. And I think Tilson's judge of ability with respect to contract terms can be best remembered with Constantine's demands (and, I believe, Mark Warren's own high regard of himself). Sentiment has to be thrown out of the window when it comes to building a squad that has to be able to at least hold its own in the Championship. Wayne Gray is a popular player with some, but his return (as a striker) is, in my opinion, woefully short of what will be required next season. As a squad player he may be able to contribute but he won't be first pick during the forthcoming campaign and I think Tilson is acknowledging that in his contract offer.

Not forgetting the Dudfield & Nicky Nic scenarios from last season.

Both built up by their agent as being better than the offers we gave them. Dudfield was IMO a decent footballer but with Fredy, Wayne & HRH The Goat he was never going to be above than 4th choice as a striker and that's the offer Tilly made him. Harsh but true. Was he better than that? A trial rejection at Posh, a month at the Cobblers & sporadic starts for Steve "Brown Paper Bag" Evans at the Pilgrims seems to suggest Tilly might have just been right!

As for Nicky Nic, well it's not even worth discussing.

I think some player agents need to question their knowledge of the game. It's fair to say that an agent is employed to get the best possible deal for his client in relation to perceived ability. But we have seen first hand how a collection of young players have been apparently badly advised. Nicolau has played a handful of games for "big club" Swindon Town before being shipped out on loan to the Conference. Dudfield ended up back in the basement league, knocking in five goals in 36 matches for Boston United. Constantine has yet to establish himself at a club, bouncing between Port Vale and Torquay United after that lucrative move to Peterborough United but has IMO faired a little better than those above. And cast your minds back three years or so to the Flahavan issue when he refused to sign a new contract "just in case a bigger club came in". And that bigger club he trained with during pre-season? Havant & Waterlooville ...

Im actually surprised Gray was offered a contract.

He had a good start to the season, but I just dont see him a a player worth having.

Yes he has pace and his heart is in the right place, but lets face it he isnt good enough for Championship and didnt set League one alight.

Yes he has scored some important goals, but he has missed some important sitters and been none-existent in too many games.

He doesnt link up well with Eastwood and they often get frustrated with each other.

I understand him not accepting a contract if the money offered isnt any better than league two, as thats a bit insulting. However if thats all they offered then its a pretty good indication of how much he is actually wanted.

Its time for Wayne to move on, he will get more games and we can get a replacement hopefully more suited to the level we will be at.

That's the doobrie. But it goes a bit odd in the off-season, hence my knocking about on here.

Er. Not quite. I'll go and dig out the stats, but he wasn't even close to that.

edit - five in his first eight games, then one in the next nine. Terrible all-round game, and bad attitude whilst he was with us.

I stand by that stat but perhaps I should have been clearer - he scored five in five at the beginning of his short 'career' at Brisbane Road after two blanks:

01.12.01 - Plymouth Argyle (H) 0
15.12.01 - Macclesfield Town (A) 0
22.12.01 - Lincoln City (H) 1
26.12.01 - Bristol Rovers (A) 2
29.12.01 - Hartlepool United (A) 0
05.01.02 - Portsmouth (A) 1
12.01.02 - Carlisle United (A) 1

Sorry to see him go as the last 2 seasons i have won £20 each season with one of me mates as he said he would score 15 goals each season and i said he would not!!!!!!!!!
All the best tho to Gray
