Wayne Grays' offer

I think Tilly/Brush will make a mistake in letting Gray go.

Can't believe so many on here are not bothered if he goes.

Gray in my eyes has always been an unsung hero, and hugely underated.

He deserves a taste of Championship football, his pace and prowess will be put to good use!

Dont forget Freddy and Wayne have had a good understanding over two promotion seasons.
They always play well together and to each other's strengths.

Surely Freddy and Wayne's understanding of each other's play will be put to good use in the championship, they've built up so much momentum over two great seasons. If it aint broke, why fix it?

Yes we need a striker to replace the Goat, but Gray doesn't need to be replaced.

Freddy and Wayne rarely play to each other's strengths. Eastwood likes to drop deep and Wayne likes to move out wide. Occasionally they work well together (Brentford at home last year, Bristol City in the LDV, Swansea on Eastwood's debut), but more often than not they don't click.

Eastwood is a different player alongside a target man who can take the hits that otherwise Freddy is going to take and who can create space for Eastwood to use to hurt teams. Gray tried to play that way at the end of last season when he came in for Goater, but it just isn't his game.

Waynes too hot and cold for my liking. We need a striker who is gonna perform week in week out like Freddy does. No point in having pace if you have the finishing skill of Emile Heskey.

But doesn't Eastwood move out wide and cut back in, see the goal he scored at home against Blackpool, and the numerous other times he's tried to do it.

Did you mean Bristol Rovers in the LDV?

When you say about a target man, yes your right. But that void will be filled when we replace the Goat!

I disagree when you say they rarely play to each other's strengths! They have a good understanding. Look how Wayne was an unsung hero in our leugue two promotion season. And the season just gone as well, although he didn't start as many games as in L2. He always in my eyes gives 100%.

Keeping Wayne will be good to the team, and to Freddy and to the Goats replacement.

why is everyone so keen to jump on Gray's back cause he didn't agree a new contract etc.

Freddy went through a few lean spells this season and last, nobody got on his back.

Eh? I've consistently mantained that I think he's cack.

Anyhoo, if what Gray says is the case then it seems to me that Tilson is lining him up as 4th choice striker on peanuts - if not he'll just bring in someone on the same money, in the same place on the pecking order. Can't see Gray signing, tbh.

And how many times you seen him play then if your an O's fan???

I know, perhaps i should go on your borient message board and start slagging off a random o's player like for example John Mackie - NOT.

Is your site really that cack?? Is that why you keep posting on this site then??

Yeah, I did mean Bristol Rovers. Don't know why I wrote City.

That'll learn me for trying to make a sensible comment. And there was me thinking I'd been salient and reasonable recently.... Though I'll tell you why I keep posting on this site: it's jolly chaps like you welcoming a fan from another club with open arms; entering into considered, constructive debate and the unrepetitiveness of the friendly banter. That, and own goal prediction threads

Oh, and Wayne Gray was on loan with us for a season a few years back. I'm sure he's improved, but from what I saw, I didn't rate him. Sorry for daring to criticise such an obviously outstanding talent...

Oh look! There was the "side splitting sarcastic comment from that really funny O's fan (doris_stokes or whatever his name is) about how great Wayne Gray is, but he doesn't really mean it cos he actually think's he's rubbish".

It's a shame other O's supporters didn't feel like that before pushing a Southend fan down the stairs at birdbrain road!!

That's a completely different set of circumstances, and you know it. And don't pluralise the "O" because it was only one (and a particularly odious excuse for an Orient fan at that).

No, ours is a ****-load busier than this, but variety is the spice of life, what what? Plus work is deathly boring. And we're going off topic, so I'm going to agree that Wayne is well within his rights to turn this offer down. Even if he had an overly-good contract for League Two, surely it wasn't a Championship-standard contract. He has done his job in helping the club get promoted (twice). I'd feel hard done by if I was in his shoes...

Ahh, but apparently (from Garry Nelson's book) if you don't offer a player a new contract, or you offer him less that he was on in his previous contract, then he is entitled to redundancy.

By offering him the same, and him more than likely leaving, SUFC are saving themselves a good few thousand.

I must still be the only one on here who would like to see Gray play wide right midfield, offering a completely different option to Bradbury.
Gray and Freddy dont seem to play well together as Freddy is better with a more static target man, like the Goat, who will just stay in the middle and as a previous poster said, take most of the knocks.
