Well, until our beloved, Converse wearing leader, starts telling us exactly what's going on with our finances, there's bound to be speculation.

So, with regard to wages being paid on time, the club has met its contractual obligation. Is that really cause for congratulating the club and the chairman?

That's not what the main purpose of this thread was though is it? It was to rectify the much vaunted misconception that Phil Brown had been paid 6 months' wages up front.

I would not be surprised if late/partial wages was more common than is public knowledge across several clubs in our division and some above; on a minor positive note our players/staff have, so far, always ended up getting their due pay.
Gossip about PB's wages etc is not helpful to engendering harmony and I do wonder on the motives of who started and fostered the rumour.

A few years ago, when we (Southend) were in division 2 getting a win against Burton Albion (or Fleetwood) of the Conference would not have resulted in too many congratulations but now a win against these teams would be met with jubilation.

So it depends on your starting position.

Given that there have been payment problems, then having all staff paid in full is progress and is (arguably) worthy of mention.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but the opening post in this thread clearly stated that the club wished it to be known that the players had been paid. My comment was such that in meeting a contractual obligation, it's odd that some people, perhaps tongue in cheek, are congratulating the club.

If the issue of players wages hadn't been one of the main points of this thread, I wouldn't have mentioned it.

The main point was Brown's wages, the fact that staff wages had also been paid was to nip any further unhelpful rumours firmly in the bud before they started. I don't think you'll find that the Trust endorsed any congratulations to Ron on making sure he had fulfilled contractual obligations.

Did I say that they had? Are diversions on threads no longer allowed now? I'm currently away on holiday so sorry if I missed that memo.

Good job we got the Cresswell money to enable the wages to be paid! Next month or the month after will be the test!![/QUOTE

Really? You have the evidence that shows the wages were paid because of the Cresswell money? Or maybe you are guessing/implying?Hmmmmm One wonders why so many falsehoods are taken as gospel by so many.

Based on not being able to pay wages on time on a regular basis & we pay them on time after we get money for Cresswell. Yes, its a guess, but a pretty reasonable guess though, based on the clubs track record & us being relatively flush financially at the moment!!

Agree, not really a business plan that I can see Sainsburys/banks going with.........but why ruin an easy story with any basis of actual knowledge.

Wages are always going to be linked to cash flow. The summer is always going to be a hard time as there are no games (so no tickets or burgers). Hopefully now the season has begun, the cash will be incoming again!

Agreed and with us getting over 7,000 for the first game that's great news in it's self, lets hope they liked what they see and come back next week
