US Election 2012: Why is Obama favourite on UK betting sites?

As much as I want Romney to win, I've had to switch Fox News off. To listen to them Romney is taking it by a landslide, the Black Panthers are threatening voters and I'm sure I just saw a set of Devil's Horns on a photo of Obama.

A guy I used to teach-an ex-member of the Catalan Parliament and a former Agriculture Minister, now a political consultant-always used to say that we, ie EU citizens, should have a vote in the US elections.Always thought that was an interesting idea if a little impractical.
Thoughts?

No.

Perhaps the EU should focus on its own lack of democratic accountability first.

Common sense says that Obama will take it, but I'm just not sure. I've had a feeling for the last week that there might be a surprise result despite the polls; apparently Reagan entered the final week 9 points behind Carter in 1980, stranger things have happened.

Also read that rain has been forecast all day in several swing states which by all accounts has tended to give the GOP a 2.5% boost in previous elections, due to the lefty idealists not liking to get the hippy hair wet.

Years ago, that used to be the situation here. If it was raining then Labour supporters would more than likely walk straight past the polling station wanting to get home rather than sod about voting. But if the sun was shining then they would be more likely to stop and cast their vote. The theory I believe was that Conservative voters were more likely to own cars where as traditional Labour voters would be the working class therefore would either be on foot or on a bicycle. Of course I am going back many years.

Extremely high turnouts being reported, and people queing for 3-4 hours just to vote. Can't imagine that happening here.

Indiana, where Mrs Drastic is visiting family, called already for Romney.

Never say never but it seems, at this moment in time, with Jeb Bush conceding Florida on behalf of Romney, that the British betting sites knew their stuff.

The poll lead Jimmy Carter had over Ronald Reagan can be qualified though. That was taken a couple of days before their second presidential debate, where Reagan destroyed Carter. By the time voting day came along, the result was a foregone conclusion. Carter conceded even before voting had closed in California.

Edit - Ouch. The final nail in Romney's coffin in the end came from Ohio. The state where Romney said about the auto bail-out. "Let them go bankrupt." That's what you call coming back to bite you on the backside.

Done and done. Obama wins by TKO.

Rusty - are you standing by your pre-election pledge to get out of the US or will you grit your teeth and put up with it? For me in the Middle East, an Obama victory is great news. Romney would have been a return to ignoramus foreign policy and jingoistic BS which does us no favours over here....

Lefty African American Muslim as president??

Don't get much worse does it!!!! USA you have ****ed yourselves on this one!

Today I am even more glad I live over here

True Blue - Fox News are also reporting that he's a celebrity nonceoid and hangs around with Townshend at weekends.

Why is a Muslim any worse than a Mormon ? Or any other religion.

I cant see how Romney appeals to anyone personally.

Given the results and Romney's complete failure to tempt the Hispanic/Latin vote, I think it's almost certain that the GOP will start to push Rubio for 2016 now.

Couldn't disagree more. Obama, despite not being ideal, is the best option for the country given the alternatives.

Romney is a dumbed down version of George W.....

Can you imagine how long this list would be if he'd have gotten in? I reckon it might have gone beyond "Dubya"s http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/mittromney/a/Mitt-Romney-Quotes.htm

I really don't know mate. I'm in a state of shock. All I can say is that I've learned two things from this. Never have any faith in the American electorate, and never bet against a bookie.

Obama was always the best choice by a mile (albeit a close-ish contest in the end). Not that I care too much as it has no direct impact on my life.

I guess the common sense of the City voters came through against the naivity of the southern and mid-states in the end.

Clueless beyond words. Try living here and tell me how good that ***-hat Obama is for the country. And what's a naivity? Is it some sort of post-Christian nativity? You're the naive one to believe that it's just wise coastal elites educating us schmucks in the provinces, it's a vicious combination of special interest groups, loafers and idiots that can elect a 'man' presiding over the highest unemployment and inflation in recent memory.
