Unluckiest player to be released ...

I recall Leke Odunsi deciding to retire as his injuries were that bad. Shame as others have said as he was starting to look good.

Jay Smith was unlucky to be let go. Obviously we can only keep a player with bad injuries so long, but if it wasn't for Goodhind he'd have been a quality player for us.

He came to my school, SHSB, one lunchtime to chat to us all about being a football player. He seemed a really genuine, nice bloke. Apparently was a regular at the Baptist church accross the road from Shoebury school. Hope he is still doing well!

Quite possibly the nicest bloke you could ever wish to meet. I was working in Asda in Shoebury when he played for us and I served him one day and told him I was a Southend fan. After that whenever he was in the store he'd find me and have a chat about what was happening at the club. Just a genuine man who appreciated the fact he was a pro-footballer and made time for everyone.

Glad to see he's still involved in the game, football needs more people like him.

Tilly was let go too soon as a player

Absolutely spot on I almost boycotted the following season when they let tilly go, IMO the worst 'letting go' in my time as a supporter, such a great servant of the club and unequalled commitment when the club was in the **** with plenty of players who didint give a monkeys, surprised he came back to the club at all after that

Wasn't Dominic Iorfa an international?

I met him at my cousins 1st Holy Communion.... I must have only been about 10 and got INCREDIBLY excited when he was sat in the row in front!!

Got to be Super Che Wilson

The title is unluckiest player to be released mate not luckiest player to get a contract renewed after being crap all season.

Scott Forbes must be up there.

Was plucked from obscurity and within a few weeks made the left wing his own. Dont think anyone would class him as the most gifted of players but he made up for that with his all action style.

As the season wore on he got better and better and started to weigh in with a few goals. Think you will find he was a blues fan too. Injury took its toll sadly.

Left us and drifted down to virual obscurity over night.

Also thought Steve Broad was a class act on the pitch. Sadly he could never get his head right off it. He must still wonder how we renewed Dave McSweeneys contract over his though.

Agreed he was not as bad Mcsweeney (no one is) but I thought he was very weak for a centre half. No pace ,not commanding in the air, no strength and poor distribution. He soon found his rightful place in the non league as most players in that era did.

I thought Steve Collis was unlucky to be honest. I didn't think he did anything wrong in the chances he was given.

Another vote for Reggie Coolball here, i thought he was quality

The Tilson one was equally baffling, especially as that **** Whelan himself walked just weeks later ... i'm sure i've read in more than one place that he had offers to stay in the league but cos he only ever wanted to play for us he decided to go non-league with the marsh rats

He was a poor player in a poor side, glad we got shot of him.
