U.K. Justice - absolutely pathetic.

Smoking is decreasing due to better education with the majority of youngsters thinking its uncool and daft.

The licensing laws have become a joke with booze readily available from various outlets the goverment should have controlled this far better.

Most youngsters have far better understanding than many of us and if they were educated at say aged 10 regarding drugs and the misery they cause most would not touch drugs.

and?.....whats the answers then?

My son and daughters friends which number around 50 and only 2 actually smoke in addition as far as i know none of them do drugs but most if not all go out on the lash .

No idea what schools you see but here in Grays you rarely see kids smoking.

wow, something that Grays is good for?!!

My kids friends are aged between 14 and 17..ALL drink and the majority smoke. Mot have taken drugs of one form or another.
They all come from middle English families, living in a country side location on the Essex herts Cambs borders, hardly innercity, and the alleged problems associated with this.

Its 'attitude' not education. How cool are we? hey look, arnt i grown up cos I smoke and drink (and to excess I have to say) I was shocked at my daughters 16th birthday party, how much alcohol was consumed by these kids...YES AGED 14 to 17!!..and its normal for them, virtually everyweekend to be absolutely plastered. What was more shocking, was the adults that 'supervise' these parties, were themselves drunk in another room.

i am divorced from thier mother, and i found it hard to put my feelings accross, as guess what? I'm in the minority!

Better education.

Smoking has recieved poor publicity over the past few years and rightly so,The message has got through to youngsters hence why they shun smoking.

Of course you will never stop the hardened smokers yet many who have smoked for many years have quit thanks to better education.

As far as you know. You are deluding yourself if you think 50 youngsters (not sure of the exact ages you are referring to here) in Grays of all places have never touched drugs.

Exactly right, there is too much "education" on subjects like this and also sex education when what most of these children need is an example to follow.

I don't believe for one minute that Grays is any different to Benfleet in this regard, maybe those GB sees are just more circumspect about it.

Why was booze allowed for under age drinkers at the party?

Yet again you twist my reply,I never stated they have NEVER tried drugs i stated they dont do drugs.

Prohibion simply does not work and all drugs should be legalised with better education at a young age.

It works here. And that includes all the Brits living in Dubai that go back to the UK and resume taking recreational drugs every weekend. I get the point though, things have now gone too far in Western society to even contemplate the kind of draconian policies that work well in the east. There would be riots all over Britain if we started locking people up for what they consider to be a normal part of British life/culture alongside good old fashioned binge-drinking.

Agreed

Would imagine Dubai laws are pretty strict meaning if you are caught you face the music.

Over hear far too wishy washy hence why repeat offenders aplenty.

Pretty strict is right. Read the one about the Radio 1 DJ who got handed four years for half a spliff? That's the norm not the exception and this is a place where people come to have a party. I'd advise anyone reading this to check the contents of their pockets/washbag very carefully before getting on a flight to Dubai and that includes prescription drugs.

It's the same in lots of places, Malaysia and Singapore as well as a lot of the middle Eastern countries. It's all about consequences, which is where British justice, and probably European as well, falls down. The punishment needs to fit the crime.

Are you advocating a muslim society and moral values in Britain? welcome to the multi cultural world, greysblue

My kids had numerous parties at home and were never allowed to booze they also went to plenty of mates parties where again booze was not allowed.

Is that them telling you that or are you sure? Mid teen parties usually involve some level of alcohol, certainly prom parties do - it's all about teaching them enjoy themselves responsibly though. Fortunately neither of mine particularly like the taste of alcohol, although my son does like lager. Two years ago, aged 14, he went to a party at a friend's house where there was just a few people, 4 girls and him (another boy couldn't make it last minute). The girl whose party it was' parents went to the offy and got him 4 cans of special brew because the girls were drinking bacardi breezers, which he didn't like. He drank them and came home very merry but no worse. You can't monitor what goes on in other people's houses and just have to hope your kids are sensible. He knows what is a sensible amount, and very much like me when I was young, has spent numerous parties sorting out mates (boys and girls) that have drunk too much.

Picking up that point, until we as a society, learn to do things in moderation and so educate our youngsters to follow that example, then there's no point in legalising drugs. So many take things to excess, whether that's drink, smoking, drugs, sex even racking up debts!

Top post .

Simply because i had trust/faith in them and other parents.

I never gave my kids freedom to roam the streets,My boy was always ferried by car until he was 14ish and yes of course him and his pals went into the woods boozing which he openly admitted to me.

I find if you treat youngsters as adults they will respond far better.

When i coached kids from various backgrounds and different standards of football they all responded with encouragment with several parents mainly mums suggesting i had better control over their kids than they actually had.

Kids are not stupid they just need better all round education in my view.

Top post , while DS i agree that appears to work (i.e the harsh laws ) its more todo with teh enourmous wealth in Dubai and the massive international assitance they recieve outside (plus even criminals want somewhere they don't experince their own crap).

If a consortuim really wanted to get in say they would .

Sorry but that's total crap that you just made up. Wealth has nothing to do with it, something like 85% of the people here are expatriates (many of them dirt poor actually) not Emiratis who are very much a minority in their own country. There are also plenty of "wealthy" places in the world that are awash with drug users so your logic is flawed. Not sure what you mean by "massive international assistance" in relation to drugs either? The fact is if you're carrying something here (no matter how small) and you're caught, you'll be thrown into a third world style jail for a few years. That is enough to make even the most hardened drug user think again and in doing so removes the market for the drug dealer.
