Transfer news
Cards had that great season with us since then has left and hasn’t been the same since and probs not got the minutes he would have got with us . But a nice wage packet overall

If he comes back and pick up form who knows maybe a loan deal could be smart option to replace one of bonne or hopper ..

At least with cards he knows how the coaches and staff work and be settled in straight away .

I'm not sure Cardwell fits in with us anymore. We spent half the season changing our style adapting to a faster build up which suits the strikers we had. When we had Cardwell we almost exclusively played it to him facing the midfield. I think this is partly why he has been a massive flop for FGR (and others before us). He couldn't fit into their style of play.

Providing of course the players are happy about his return. No point in upsetting a happy ship.

People wanting past players back annoys me ,i now its their perogative , but how many pst players have been a success the second time around. Get over Cards he had his time here , I was against Hopper coming back too
Yeah but I do think signing Cardwell would be slightly different. Usually when we’ve re-signed a player that did well for us previously they are coming back in their mid-thirties for one last pay day. Harry’s only 28 and for me he can offer what Hopper does for the team but trouble the scorers a bit more too.

This said, I still can’t really see it happening unless some kind of loan deal can be struck. But a frontline including Cardwell, Spasov and Kendall is a really good start with Hopper and Walker in reserve. I’d probably rather keep Bonne than Hopper too but for various reasons that won’t happen.

Even before Cards left us for FGR there were strong and persistent rumours in respect of interest from EFL clubs. Effective forwards are always in demand and his goalscoring record with us is recent enough for some club higher up in the pyramid to want to bring him in. If FGR were to let him go surely the likeliest destination for him is a move to the EFL with no significant drop in wages.

He would be a fit with us at the wages he was paid before his move. I am only guessing but it does seem now he would cost considerably more.

If he is unhappy at FGR maybe he would be willing to take a pay cut. However I think he got a massive payrise to go there so I guess it comes down to what he really wants - money or happiness

I think he’s on about 2 or 3x the highest earner here, so would be a hell of a pay cut to come back. Not worth it in my opinion.

Can’t see any team inc EFL teams paying him anywhere close to that especially where he hasn’t played much. He will either need to stay as a squad player there getting a smaller number of minutes or move and try and be the main man but taking a big pay cut. If we bring him back it should be on what he was on previously and nothing more. I liked him first time he was here but I think he is more of a risk now for a number of reasons with the main one being lack of minutes in recent seasons coupled with previous injury record = him more injury prone now than before

If he is prepared to take a pay cut, maybe with incentive style bonuses then he obviously backs himself to succeed somewhere where he is happy. Personally I would lap that up. Cardwell isn't like an Eastwood or a Kightly returning end of their career it's a different scenario.

If he wants similar money to what he's on at FGR then that is a different situation again

He will pick up his wages- either by staying there, moving to a club willing to pay same, or somewhere paying less as long as FGR make up the difference.

Coming here under the last scenario would be a non starter from FGR point of view and if we were going to pay what he is on now then it should be spent elsewhere (up and coming early 20s like Bim).

Cards has made his bed, and however unsettled it’s a financially comfortable one.

Wouldn’t have Cards back personally. Would take a huge chunk of budget and there’s no guarantee he’ll ever replicate his last season with us. The money would be far better spent elsewhere.

I’d rather us go for someone like Aaron Jarvis if we still want a mobile target man, but with Hopper, Slav and potentially Bonne, I’m not sure we do.

FGR have let Steve Cottrell go, so depending on what their new manager thinks of Harry will determine his next move (if there is one).

Personally, I would take him back in a shot as he fitted well at our club, scored goals and in the words of sir Tilson "worked his socks off".

Apart from the boy from Luton on loan we didn't replace him and it really showed.

exactly but Hopper has a contract so to my mind bringing in Cards is a waste when that money and wages can be better spent on another CD ,LWB, or midfield general.

We have Hopper, Walker , Kendall, Slavic and maybe Bonne ,i think that is plenty ,should we get an injury or two can always look to give the young lad Stone i think his name is some experience or go to the loan market.

Yes agreed but my point would be an EFL team might still pay him considerably more than he could hope to receive from us.
