Transfer news
Another vote here for Dion Pereira.

Been at Luton 5 years and not broken through. Always a standout in a crap Daggers side though. 16 G/A in 34 games this season. Reminds me a little of Ryan Hall. Would be good to have a proper option out wide.

One for Stilly to sort out surely.
He'd be on my hit list too Smiffy and you describe him perfectly.
I think Gillingham are already sniffing around him though which may mean we miss out sadly.

Kabongo Tshimanga has been released by Peterborough. He's been on loan at Swindon and, given he played 36 times for them, I suspect he's out of our reach.
Interesting. I mentioned him above but didn’t realise he’d been released. No harm having him on our radar but he will likely require a more significant chunk of budget.

I get what you're saying YB and we certainly have to be careful. I do also think we have to be mindful that every player has to be judged individually and not as a collective. The collective being 'older players'. Of course, Kightly, Milligan and Moncur are all examples of when it goes wrong, but that doesn't necessarily mean every player older than 30 is a 'no-go signing'.

There are several examples of when it does work. It all went down hill for Gateshead when Butterfield got injured. Doidge is FGR's top goal scorer. Henderson has still contributed 9 goals for Rochdale and he's 40 and Weston played an important part in Bromley's promotion in his mid-thirties. It's a squad game and that bit of experienced quality can make all the difference, especially in the final third.

Furthermore, Rees hasn't been sitting on the bench or been the scrapheap without a club with no preseason in his legs. He has played consecutively for years at this level. In that time, he has produced a big number of goals and assists. He knows this level inside out and has produced the goods season after season. If the deal was right and it suited us, we can't just turn our noses up at him simply because he is 32 in October. Age should only be a factor if their injury record is a concern or if the club are heavily relying on a profit for every player.

You mention Coker, I think he is a really good midfielder and definitely shouldn't be let go like some suggested on here, but I still don't think he is going to get us the amount of goals we need from an attacking midfield position. I think we just think he might because no other midfielder scores for us. It makes him seem more attacking than he actually is.

As much as our midfield has been a lot more dynamic and energetic, it's still lacked quality in the final 3rd. That dynamism in behind an attacking outlet like Rees could work.

He’s not someone to build around IMO and I’m struggling to see how a third experienced midfielder is going to fit into this squad. Maybe if Cav departs and if Rees is a bench player to come on for Parillon?

Coker has scored 12 goals in 48 starts for us according to Soccerbase. That works as a goalscoring midfielder, even before adding in any projected improvement.

Pearce was 28 when York signed him and had just scored 43 goals in NLS. Taylor is 34 and scored 48 goals in the Isthmian, the league below NLS. He may well get a NL team take a gamble on him but he won’t be the next Ollie Pearce.
Didn’t realise he was that old, spring chicken then lol

If a chance fell to any of our midfielders, including Parillon, I would without a shadow of a doubt want it to fall to Ollie Coker. Definitely knows where the onion bag is. But it's all the more impressive because he isn't really an attacking CM, he works his socks of all round including defensively. Under rated...

I am assuming (for this post) that we are in The Conference next season ............. but having made the play-offs 2 years in a row* surely we are looking to be in the hunt at the top of the table for 2025/26?

If that is the case then signing a number of players from lower leagues on more than 1 year contracts is quite a risk - have we not seen that it generally takes time for players to adjust? And how will they cope with 2 games in a week? And should we be promoted, then these new player signings might then not be suitable for Division 4/League 2. And who would come to us on a 1 year contract?

I'm not saying there aren't more players like Parillon but there is a need for balance.

And that suggests to me that we mostly require players from The Conference or above if they are going to play for quite a number of games, have an instant impact (from August onwards) & be part of a settled team.

Please feel free to comment on the logic mentioned.

* I know - it was the 10 point deduction you see ...........

Players we may look at.

Targets will certainly depend on what league we are in. Realisticly (delighted if I'm wrong) we will be in the NL next year as I believe York will be too strong for us. Therefore, my list is based on this and looking at players in that this division only. I'll leave North and South to the experts and exclude Barnet and York City players.

I believe a left winger will be high priority, but areas we may also look at is in the striker area as we have failed to score enough goals, and that needs addressing. RWB also, as I would expect someone to hit us with a bid we cant refuse, and like losing Cardwell and Kensdale, we should be prepared and not unexpectedly hit. LWB in addition as I don't believe we have sufficient cover either.

Centre back - hoping we can sign Goodliffe, Golding or both so not observed this position.

RWB

MY FAVOURED CHOICE:
Kallum Cesay - Wealdstone. 37 apps, 5 goals. Age 22. Joined from Spurs as an academy player of 5 years so has pedigree.

Oscar Rutherford - Dagenham. 40 apps, 1 goal. Aged 21. Versatile.

Tariq Hinds - Braintree/Woking. 18 apps, 2 goals. Age 24. At Spurs as an academy player of 4 years so has pedigree. Been offered new deal so unlikely.

Louis Stephenson - Hartlepool. 17 apps. Aged 19. Talented young player.

LB

MY FAVOURED CHOICE:
Jack Evans. Halifax. 36 apps. Age 24. Former Blackburn Rovers.

Charlie Sayers - Woking. 1 app. With Spurs academy 4 years, joining from Southend. To be released so available.

LW

MY FAVOURED CHOICE:
Tom Knowles. Forest Green. 40 apps, 1 goal. Age 26. Very good player at this level but wages could command a problem.

Angelo Capello. Halifax. 38 apps, 3 goals. Age 23. Former Sheff Utd.

FWD

MY FAVOURED CHOICE:
Kyrell Lysbie - Braintree (loan from Colchester) . 40 apps, 13 goals. Age 21. Brilliant player through the middle or on either flank.

Daniel Creaney. Tamworth. 42 apps, 19 goals. Age 30. Yes maybe on the wrong end of age, but a perfect hold up player to feed advancing midfielders. An absolute handful.

Regan Linney - Altrincham. 42 apps, 23 goals. Age 27. Very good at this level. He'll be in demand.

Will Davis - Sutton. 44 apps, 18 goals. Age 25.

Othe possible to look at:

CM
Josh Rees - Dagenham 41 apps. Aged 31.
Yes despite the age, he has sustained a high level of apprearances in this league and has scored 31 in 2 seasons. May be an ideal bench impact player.

ACM/FWD
Sonny Lo Everton- Yeovil. 29 apps, 4 goals . Age 22.

RW
Michael Adu-Poku. Rochdale. 7 apps. Age 19. Former Watford for 4 years. Good pedigree and frame.

Tyresse Shade. Eastleigh. 43 apps, 14 goals. Age 24. Former Leicester City for 3 years.

DM
Marley Marshall- Miranda. Braintree. 31 apps, 1 goal. Age 22. Big future!
