A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

Congrats to Rhys Oates, 17 goals in 38 games, could Hartlepool be on their way back to the league. OPs., I wont mention his age, young lad from lower leagues, but hes not 32+

Ignoring the now very boring age issue, he was absolutely outstanding in that first half. Head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch.

Just for Jai, Massimo, and Kenty Blues

Hope this helps you and encourages a wider perspective and influences our future transfer direction

Y r u trying so hard to make people put u on ignore ?

Y r u trying so hard to make people put u on ignore ?

Fair point and of course not, but strange that a view held by someone like Steve Tilson is an anathema if I try to evidence it, and seems to put peoples backs up for daring to offer a sensible contribution

TOP 6 SCORERS IN LEAGUE TWO

1 Mullin, Cambridge, 32, Age 26

2 Vaughan, Tranmere, 19, Age 32

3. Doyle, Bolton, 18, Age 33

4. Jay, Exeter, 18, Age 25

5. Henderson, Salford, 17, Age 36

5. Matt, Forest Green, 17, Age 31

5. McAleny, Oldham, 17, Age 28

5. Johnson, Salford, 17, Age 28

I don’t think this proves strikers under 25 should be avoided either.

Hang on there just one minute Shrimper lovers !! What’s going on here ??

I’d have to say that from everything I’ve read here, Barry C has put forward perfectly reasonable, well thought out, fair and balanced arguments.
Is there a “little clique” thing going on here that the rest of us are somehow not aware of ?? It certainly seems like some SZ members are banding together to knock down some very good points that have been raised. Perhaps they wished they’d have thought of them ?!
In the most simplistic terms, this club, under the direction of PB and Martin , has a fair amount of previous form for buying up old crocks who then fall to bits after 10 minutes, and end up being about much use as an expensive choccy fireguard !!! . A call for a more progressive approach based on targeting younger players to mix the balance a bit better.... seems MORE THAN REASONABLE......so I don’t understand the anti sentiment?? ..
Or is this just another manifestation of the “Martin and PB can do no wrong“ loyal appreciation society ???

This thread has turned into a debate on whether it's a good idea to sign players over 30 or not to which there is only one answer.

It depends on the player.

Now can we move onto more important stuff like when boxing day is?

We need to decide when easter sunday is first before we get to boxing day, jheez lets learn to walk before we can run

Barry C has put forward reasonable arguments. Absolutely. But there are perfectly reasonable counter arguments which are equally valid? And if you keep on making one argument then it’s likely that will encourage an opposite argument? Or is that not allowed? I too wish this argument would go away.
Things are not right or wrong and that equally applies to age- Lennon and Hyam are great examples of the fact that “crocks” come in all ages.
You talk about a Martin and PB can do no wrong appreciation society- what has that has to do with the argument? Or is that actually what is at the heart of this- it’s actually about PB is doing this so it must be wrong?- it’s the Martin and PB can only do wrong society?
Maybe, just maybe, the answer is somewhere in the middle?

Has our transfer business now concluded? As this thread has gone slightly off track .. it seems to be based on one signing and PB’s perceived past record. Let’s wait and see, eh? Now who’s heard any rumours?

I promise not to keep the age debate going...I didn’t mean to. I will try harder.

Me too points taken ,I will drop it but hope to have enlivened the debate a bit around squad balance and possibly local talent. Onwards and upwards together, may the decent signings continue
