I dont think we should spunk a lot of money on Akinde. A good player but his goals stats are very up and down.
The reason we are in the fifth tier in the first place is an almost direct result of him throwing everything at getting in the League One playoffs in 2017.Ron you spouted that you would throw everything at trying to get out of the the 5 tier of football at the fist time of asking .Well show the fans and the manager that you ment what said and give phil brown the striker he craves for . No more talk and sitting on your hands its time for action .
Jordan Slew just signed for Halifax. You are right. To be fair, I think PB said in the recent Zoom meeting he is looking at a number of "Number 9s". There are a number of competent tall strikers that are available that would probably not cost an arm and a leg. Mike Fontop is one name mentioned. Another possibility might be Jordan Slew.
Whilst I agree with the first and third paragraphs the penny hasn't dropped unless you mean it has dropped down the back of the sofa and Ron is scrambling around to find it.The reason we are in the fifth tier in the first place is an almost direct result of him throwing everything at getting in the League One playoffs in 2017.
Personally, I'm glad the penny has finally dropped.
Big money signings won't get us out of this league. Plenty of teams can out spend us. The way to get out is making clever signings and crafting a team that works well together, stays relatively injury free and has a good spirit.
I agree with this. I thought it was interesting on the Trust zoom call that PB mentioned re the transfer process that he needs to be "the best salesman that has sat down in front of RM" to convince him to sign off on a player. The reason we are in the fifth tier in the first place is an almost direct result of him throwing everything at getting in the League One playoffs in 2017.

I get excited about big signings as much as all of us, but really what would we gain by shovelling £2k a week into the pockets of an ageing striker whose record in recent years is hit and miss (if it is indeed Akinde we want)?
Whether Dalby proves to be the man only time will tell, but it's the sort of under the radar, smart signing that we should be making.
Thanks for the information. That was certainly a 6'3" striker that was within our budget range.Jordan Slew just signed for Halifax.
In other potential signing news from yesterday's zoom call, any ideas who the young left sided centre back from Peterborough could be?
PB mentioned he'd discussed with Barry Fry and that he could be an option to join on loan.
Good shout @Napster - looks like he signed a two year deal with Posh from Ramsgate. He's described on their website as having a lot to learn but being quick, a good size and good on the ball, which tallies with what PB said. Not sure he'd be challenging Hobson, Coulson and White for a starting spot but could be a useful backup.Emmanuel Fernandez? From round this way...
I sincerely hope he'd be challenging Hobson and I think John White is only there for stability, passion and cover. If JW is a regular starter, then there are injuries or suspensions that will be affecting us.Good shout @Napster - looks like he signed a two year deal with Posh from Ramsgate. Every season people say this about John White, and every season he ends up a regular. Would be surprised if this season is not the same, although it's true he's not getting any younger.I sincerely hope he'd be challenging Hobson and I think John White is only there for stability, passion and cover. And that's nothing against JW, who I love. But he thought his last season would be 2 seasons ago. He would, I'm pretty sure, not be involved at all if we had stayed up.
Account is full of rubbish unfortunatelyHow true this is I don't know
Not wrong there.....actually while the age of the player is not irrelevant even more important is the wage and length of contract,Ricey, some wise words there. If the striker over 30, the risk of paying inflated wages for disappointing returns increases significantly.
Perhaps.......but then will RM recall, the signings of Ferdinand, Kightly, Kiernan and Josh Wright?I agree with this. I thought it was interesting on the Trust zoom call that PB mentioned re the transfer process that he needs to be "the best salesman that has sat down in front of RM" to convince him to sign off on a player.
I think this is currently the case with Holmes and the League One striker as both represent a significant outlay and potentially above the budget RM originally set out. My take is that is why we're stepping up the move to push Akinola out to free up wages, as PB mentioned he's one of our top earners.
I'd like to think the penny has dropped with RM hence the additional time being taken, but I also think it's likely that PB is a good enough salesman to get him to buy in to the idea that these two signings will get us promotion...
There is another aspect of John Akinde's possible transfer that is potentially worrying - it could impede the development of Sam Dalby. He showed exceptional promise on his debut in the friendly against Brentford and needs games in the National League if he is going to develop. In many ways, Dalby has a touch of Bill Garner about him and seems to have formed already a highly promising strike partnership with Rhys Murphy. Not wrong there.....actually while the age of the player is not irrelevant even more important is the wage and length of contract,
