A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

Plenty of time to get another striker in, but we do need at least one more senior striker, as well as a rough diamond from someone's under 23s on loan.
I’ve said all along we need to spend money to get in a top striker, we’ve seen our competitors are willing to do just that. Clearly, there are goal scorers based in the south (ie the top 3 NL last season, as an example).

I would imagine wrexham would of offered a better financial package...... cant blame him to much, football is short career.

Plenty more fish in the sea, but we need another permanent striker in before season starts.

Hyde favour a club in North of England & of course Wales.

Jake Hyde was based in London when Halifax signed him.

Hyde is 31 so probably the package offered was important. And Phil Parkinson is an excellent manager with strong backing at the Boardroom level.

@Moley was Hyde our first choice or was there someone else out there that we’re still in with a chance of signing to partner Murphy please?
Morgan Ferrier might be a possibility. 6'1" 26 year old striker sold by Tranmere to an Israeli club. Ferrier might welcome a return to the UK. He scored 15 goals in one season in National League before Walsall signed him a few seasons ago. He is a very useful player.

Any chance we’d go back in for John Akinde? Not sure if there’s bad blood after the deadline day incident. Rumoured with Barnet, though he may have signed somewhere without me noticing

He played in the second half and scored for Gillingham in a pre-season game.

I get the feeling PB and team are looking for a tall targetman sort of striker. If that is the case, there may not be too much choice in terms of free transfers. Courtney Duffus (Bromley) and Joe Quigley (Yeovil) will cost money and presumably the sort of money Southend were prepared to pay for Jake Hyde. One thing is clear. The club needs to be decisive and to get in another striker while pre-season is still in its early stages.

A less expensive possibility might be Mike Fondop-Talom, a 6' 3', 27 year old striker recently freed by Burton. Fondop-Talom has a pretty respectable goalscoring record in the National League. Interestingly, some Halifax fans believe Fondop-Talom might be a good replacement for Hyde.

Fondop-Talom: love that name ☺️

It wasn’t Akinola he took a particular dislike to and he had a genuine injury he had been carrying. There were at least a couple of others whose level of commitment and desire were beyond ( or should I say below) PB’s comprehension but it’s quite likely Akinola will stay I think.

I hope Akinola stays, gets fully fit/injury free and is given the opportunity to prove he has the ability. That would be beneficial for both Akinola & Southend United.

Starting to get a bit nervy in all honesty. We might be one of the bigger clubs in the National League, but many others have got far more financial power than we have. Money talks and I would imagine that’s true more so at this level.

The likes of Wrexham and Stockport are paying decent fees for very good players. Anyone who thinks we should be walking this league might have a bit of a shock. Sadly I think our stay in the National League might be a bit longer than any of us would’ve wanted.

It is scary moving into the unknown but I do feel, based on PB previous venture that we will have one of the fittest teams with a never say die attitude! Here’s to the unknown
