Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Rumours Etc part 2.....2024/25

Transfer news
Yep, this is the issue Kev and COSU will have at the end of the season.

IMO too many bang average players have been rewarded extended deals on sentiment alone. As I've mentioned previously, someone in COSU is going to need to brush up on their "by mutual agreement" negotiating skills this spring/summer to give us a shot at clearing the decks a little.

We are overloaded with players who in truth shouldn't be part of the starting XI of a club which needs to genuinely be chasing promotion next season. There won't be any free passes or allowances from the supporter base next season. We need to be in at the very least a play-off birth come Christmas....or the fans will turn big time.

Over to you COSU, clear the decks (Somehow) and show us some ambition with quality signings, early doors. The fans will respond in kind with season card sales. If not, expect a fairly healthy drop in sales...
Do you think fans will give until Xmas. This season the KM out thread started in November. I suspect a poor preseason will bring out the naysayers

The problem is that the vast majority of this squad will still be under contract. I can't see us signing more than three new players. Unless they are far better than the current squad it could be the same frustration next season.
I’d expect to see more than 3 new faces this summer. Not all new faces will go immediately into the starting XI though.

But in any case the squad that finishes next season will look different to the one that starts it.

I know the embargo forced our hand somewhat but of our 17 man squad last night only 7 of them were with us at the start of the season. Squads continually evolve at this level.

But our form since mid-October (Eastleigh in the FA Cup was when we righted ourselves) has probably been playoff form. Certainly since we’ve strengthened the squad we’ve been consistently top 6 in the form table. Hopper in particular has made a difference and we’re scoring more consistently since he’s come in as a result of holding the ball up better. He’s also made Bonne better by allowing us to rest him. Midfield is currently unbalanced by all our best defensive midfielders being unavailable. The defence is work in progress with a lot of new pieces still fitting together (Hayes, Golding, Goodliffe).

We’re not where we want to be but we’re also not at a place where we have to rip it all down. We need to make tweaks and find the right balance as much as anything.

No room for sentiment anymore, think they are ready to be ruthless.

I think three or four players will be about right. The two loans will go back so we will need to replace them.

Five if you include Wood will be out of Contract. Maher has favourites like Ralph, Bridge and Bonne so will probably release Waldron and Wood.

We just dont have the money to be releasing contracted players unless we get an offer in.

If we can get three or four decent players in I think we could push for a play off spot. Then we will probably top up with short term loans when injuries occur like we have done previously at this level.

Like mentioned above I’m still confused why we offered long term contract to so many players . We thanks them for there loyalty yes of course but some of them should have got short term deal .

As times like the end of the season it bit harder to clear off some of them and making sure we get a nice fee for the individual so we can re invest in replacements .

We really need to starting getting our target in early this time around yes there will always be competition but let’s hope we can have some luck this time around . And add real quality to give us a real go for next season
