Absolutely this. I’d argue that it actually makes more sense having a very experienced and safe pair of hands as number 2 when you have a very young (in goalkeeper terms) and promising number 1.Not suggesting that - I much prefer the process of young, promising, hungry players from VNL/VNS tbh. But GK is the one position where a bit of experience hurts no one. Plus, someone who knows how the current management work, has worked with the current No.1 and understands the club can't hurt stability either.
Players who aren’t quite ready/good enough can be brutally exposed in that position more than any other.
