A Bit of Fun Transfer embargo at Southend?

Status
Not open for further replies.
Wouldn't any embargo be imposed if we were unable to make the payment to HMRC? Why would it be imposed now? Haven't we still got some time to come settle this?

IF we can't make the payment, and IF the HMRC make it that uncomfortable for the club we go into administration, then I could see it.

I'm sorry, but at this stage of proceedings, it doesn't make sense to me.

I believe failure to pay wages - if that is the case - (meaning the PFA would have to step in), would put us in an embargo.

Not 100% sure on that, but I think similar has happened at other clubs.

But didn't Ron categorically state that all wages had been paid, bar the deletion of one player. I doubt that such a skilled communicator would misjudge such a statement.

Yeah I'm not an expert but I don't think any embargo (if there is one) would be triggered by the HMRC debt - it's usually a football-related payment such as failing to pay players or missing a transfer payment. I could of course be wrong.
The PFA are normally quite vocal about players not being paid so if it's wages or bonuses related I would expect them to spill eventually. But if it's transfers it might be a little harder to prove there is an embargo in place - the club won't want it out.

He did indeed say this at the AGM IIRC. If it turns out that we haven't paid players, the my unfaltering faith will be a little rocked to say the least!

Remember about this information, it depends on the slant you give it, business people have to be good to put the right slant it. They need to keep the investors happy and content. In this case we are the investors as well as the corporates, sponsors, etc.

The whole financial crisis the world is in was impacted further by people reacting badly to the bad news and pulling their money out and stop investing.

So at the time of the announcement we may have been uptodate with payments, but did anyone press to find out if we ever missed payments or changed the way we paid players?

Am I always sceptical when you have conflicting stories, and try not to have a knee jerk reaction either way.

Did he say anything about bonuses?

Dunno about that. Haven't time to look. My work firewall only allows me 3 x 10 minute slots on here throughout the day!

I think Ron will be hounded out of the town if earlier statements were proved to be untrue (not that I suspect they are!)

I queried this a couple of months ago and got the below from the FA in reference to our failure to pay HMRC.

Your email addressed to John Nagle has been forwarded on for attention.

We are working through the processes to implement the Regulations at this present time with Clubs. I can confirm that if a Club has historic arrears not already covered by a time to pay agreement, the Club will have a period of 12 months in which to reach a time to pay agreement or clear the arrears, before restrictions on new player signings apply.

However, should the Club fail to meet any obligations in respect of current debt or payments due under a time to pay agreement this will result in the immediate application of restrictions on signings.

The rules and regulations are contained in The League’s handbook and available to purchase from this office. A publications pro-forma is attached which you should complete and return to The Football League Operations Centre, Edward VII Quay, Navigation Way, Preston PR2 2YF, together with the appropriate remittance.

I don't think Ron lies. He's too clever. But does he carefully omit the truth?

Who knows... I certainly don't want to get myself or others in trouble by giving my opinions on here. I am still pro-Ron but I make sure I read everything he puts out very carefully these days.

Think this rumour is out of date.

Was a potential embargo when we were about to sign M'Voto on loan because we owed money for Walker. It was paid and hence we have a new centre back.

Exactly, he has brought a lot of good to our club, but when normal businesses are having a tough time, why are we so surprised that our club may also be.

i am sure that Ron will do his best to keep this club a float but lets not have Witchhunts everytime someone posts something controversial about the clubs situation. As fans it is important that we are realistic and adjust our expectations accordingly.

I hope that we may reduce the numerous posts about 'why are we not after such and such a player', similarly those 'oh no we have financial worries'.

Where did you hear that?

I like the way most people are jumping the gun on this one. Its been mentioned by two people on here so far, and to my knowledge none of them have provided genuine inside knowledge before.

Actually a fan of your posts Jai, so don't take that the wrong way.

FYI
I just spoke to the FL customer services deparment who were very clued up on embargoes. In summary the league will never confirm/deny a transfer embargo. QPR is only in the press today becasue Warnock brought it up.-(comment from FL) The only people (theretically) who know if an embargo is in place is the club concerned and the league.

I have a different take on this to others. It does not makese sense to me that Jai and others are saying that they about this yesterday, and today we are signing a player. If it was in palce we could not be signing. However it might make more sense that we DID have an embargo in place, hence why we did not sign anyone, and we have now paid whatever monies were owned and the embargo has now been lifted, but someone at the club said something that wasn't complety correct, or was misunderstood (We had a tranfer embargo rather than we have a transfer embargo).

If we get in Roy O'Donovan then that is surely evidence that no embargo is in place

I'm sorry, but a common sense approach has no place here .. be off with you sir ;)
