That guy was a legend.. Properly slapped the col u. And came back for seconds.

Oh dear.

Im sure he will become a legend now like Robin Hood, because I doubt he will be seen in Roots Hall in the real world anymore.

Not strictly true. They are there to manage crowds. If a load of fans run at them they are not there to repel the fans with force. They have conflict management training and assessment at Level 2, that's it. Biggest failing by stewards was getting involved, and not picking up smoke bombs in searching which is in their role.
I'm not talking about a load of fans running at them or smoke bombs. I'm talking about one person entering the pitch, which it is their job to stop.

Whenever pitch invaders have been seen before at Southend or elsewhere it's always the stewards who bring them to the floor/grab them and take them away, that doesn't require substantial force. You're making it out as though the stewards were violently threatened by a large group of people, it was one person, which shouldn't be difficult to stop.

Club doesn't pay for police presence.

Police aren't in the ground.

Club saves money.

Lack of police presence results in public order incidents.

Club are fined by the Football League.
Don't tell the club about the hidden cost. I don't suppose the little 6 year old who ended up in tears because of the disorder, or his family, or the other people who've commented that it was all unsettling, I don't suppose they'll be bringing Uncle Ron more gate money any time soon.

I agree and this is why a club needs to have their Stewards at the top of their game.

I can understand why some go down the security route.

Someone more knowledgeable than me will know the mathematics, but is a private security firm that much cheaper than a reasonable police presence?

Very good point. Not to mention lack of future sales of club shop items and so on to them.

There's only a few games where a police presence is needed.

This was one of them, IMHO and could possibly have been an expense well spent.

There were Police in the NW corner I'm not sure how many maybe 4. All they did was film what was going on. They were obviously only there to observe and to not get involved.

Interestingly, on that CUFC Police Twitter feed, a Col U fan has pretty much challenged the police, saying they could have done more than just film the incidents.

A six year old in block x today would have felt intimidated regardless of whether there was any trouble, which actually there wasn't, that took place on the pitch and in the North Bank. The noise and atmosphere does not make that area of the ground suitable for a six year old, maybe do a tiny bit of research next time before taking a young child into a section right next to the away fans at a local derby.

Some real sanctimonious drivel been spouted on here tonight. Yes the guy who rushed their fans shouldn't have done it but hey **** happens and some of you are slating that entire section who to be honest were absolutely superb in their support and spent 99% of the time laughing at the silly little boys from Col U. There was no malice until we saw Col U punching stewards and trying to get to us in block x. Couple of guys wrongly go over the wall and all of a sudden it's us doing the goading, grow up and I bet most of you whining about it do no singing or cheering.

That was the first time i've been in the West for years and I did not feel intimidated or threatened by anyones behaviour, get a grip all you wanna be crimewatch presenters. The guy will be nicked for sure but the police really were pathetic and for all the Deegan haters one of the old bill had a huge beard, was he a target for the ref ? lol

For what it's worth the scenes today left me ashamed and slightly spoiled a great win. If if was the same guy who assaulted the col u fans twice then yes it's disgusting that he wasn't thrown out initially but equally I hope the c-unit never graces roots hall again.

Yes, the Col U fans didn't cover themselves with glory with their constant goading but why can't we rise above it? I just don't get the physical stuff, verbal goading is ok to a point but actually assaulting people is just wrong. I hope anyone who was proud of today's scenes will take up boxing and stop sullying my team with your pathetic behaviour.

You see this is another example of people talking utter rubbish. The guy did not assault them twice, the second time it was a young tubby lad who was dealt with very roughly by the stewards which he deserved.

The first guy who took on the front row reacted to violence happening in the north bank, he actually said "i'm not ****ing having that" then jumped over and rushed them. People need to stop making up what they don't know.

Mods, please delete this thread.

Ricey, im dissapointed in you. I have alot of respect for you & normally you write good & well balanced opinions in your posts.

However, please have an ounce of respect please, we still have a Cambridge fan in a coma from an away visit to ours.

We are not Millwall!.. we are a family club, so please dont to try and promote this stuff.

Really? I'm sure Ricey didn't post this to glorify or condone the behaviour. It happened end of, ignoring it won't help. What we need to do IMO is rise up and condemn it, surely this forum is a good place to start?

Fair enough, I was in the South Upper but whether it was the same guy or not there's no excuse, still disgusting in my view.

I'm glad the guy went over and threw a few punches, teach them that giving it to people does have it's consequences.
