Timothee Dieng

100% his “injuries” were not “misdiagnosed”.

Ultimately, a manager who wasn’t cutting his teeth at the time would have dealt with him completely different.

I’ve rarely got involved with the debates over MM, he had his strengths and had his weaknesses (and was undoubtedly dealt a **** hand), but a stronger, more experienced manager would have dealt with the likes of Dieng & co differently.

umm - MM was ****e and Tim was too good for the utter shambles that was MMs effort to manage at EFL level

Sometimes you can only go by what you see on the pitch and I still have recurring nightmares where I wake up in a cold sweat thinking dieng and mantom are still our centre midfield pairing:Stunned:

Well done Tim, great season and he has proved a lot of us absolutely correct.....Had ability but was clearly taking the p*** out our club and all us fans.

I think he did as well as can be expected in the team he played with.

One good season with Exeter doesn't mean that he should have displayed the same form in one of the worst three teams in L2 last season.

Good old Tim ..

not sure why people think he took the **** out of SUFC ??? do tell me

Personally I would have said that asking any professional footballer to play for MM was "constructive dismissal" or at least asking them to commit career suicide ..

I do wonder about the MM supporters ... the man who led the club to its lowest ebb ..

He was just giving Ron what he was paying for....or lack of paying. Ron auto-relegated us.

1. Playing for SUFC was constructive dismissal.
2. I think you'll find it was RM who led the club to its lowest ebb.

Ok I will. I have never seen any player at any level get to within one yard of an opponent without doing anything, time and time again. If only there was nearly heat map for all to see. Compare that to young Neal last night. He was absolutely up for it against their number useful number 10.

Many noticed TD's lack of tackles and we are not suggesting Peter Butler.....Just get a toe in or nudge, its not walking football or netball. We are talking a lower league CM or a CB who was the same with his head.

You cant use MM as an excuse because there was CP, OO7 and Mr Thinking Cap before Molesley. I can tell that a certain physio wasn't to impressed and said Dieng was a malingerer. Physios dont just deal with the injury they also do the recovery programme. They know who wants to get fit and who wants to make the 'most' of their slight strain.

Now in defence of Mr Dieng I always felt he would be better used as a number 10 and stated that on here. Especially when we had no forwards. From memory Cox's 3rd goal v Pompey would be a good example of what Dieng could do.

I have not watched Exeter this season and presume they have used him wisely but that is still no excuse for his obvious 'coasting' whilst in an SUFC shirt.

Timothee "doesn't tackle and can't head" Dieng made the third most tackles per game last season for us and the third most the season before (ignoring those who played fewer than 3 games). Dieng also won the most aerial duels per game the last season and was second to Hopper the season before.

You can say what you like about his lack of effort or faking injuries, but facts don't lie.

Fascinating story and no doubt quite true.

Sadly though, it is hardly relevant to the sight of Dieng strolling round the pitch without a care in the world.

As a defensive midfielder or centre back can anyone remind me of any decent tackles he made?
Presumably he was only playing in those positions at the behest of management.Clearly his best position was as an attacking midfielder just behind the front two (which is where I imagine he's playing at Exeter). Makes sense to play a good player in his best position.

Best to try whichever position you’re asked to play in.

Where would he rank in tackles per game throughout the league we played in at the time? We were shocking and i feel like comparing his stats over players that were also crap doesn't really make much of a point other than to say he was less crap than his team mates.

For what it's worth, I do feel like he just not the type of player we needed at the club during the time he was here, he needs someone else to do the donkey work. Had he joined when we were on the upward curve or had the players that did that side of the game it may have been a different story.

16th out of 122 central midfielders for tackles won, 4th on tackles attempted and top for aerial duels won & attempted.

However, my point wasn't whether he was good defensively or not, but that he actually did attempt tackles and headers.

I didn't see him as often as some of you but when I did I always felt there was a player in there somewhere. Maybe we just have to accept for whatever reason we didn't get the best out of him. I doubt it was down to lack of effort on his part, if he wasn't trying he'd be out of the team in a flash. It just didn't click for him here in the way it has at Exeter. Look at Steve Arnold. I bet there's plenty of fans from his ex-clubs who can't believe how much we all rave about him here.

Apart from appearances and goals player stats aren't facts.
Football is way to complicated and has a billion combinations every game.

I would expect a defensive CM/CB to be busy in a team that were relegated twice in a row and conceding 100 goals a season.

Modern obsessions about pass completion etc don't prove anything. Wheres the stats for day dreaming and allowing a free shot on goal. Not being tight enough and allowing the oppos midfield play maker time on the ball to hurt your team.

Same with yards covered in a game. Watch highlights from all those defeats in the previous two seasons. Keep an eye on Dieng and Mantom. They would both run back but often ended up marking space to close to the goal. A cross would be pulled back to outside the box and the player has time for a touch and gets a comfortable shot away......Have a look at Ferguson for Col U's first goal in that vital game as a perfect example....Ground covered but lazy and unaware about what really needs doing.

A CM should be looking over his shoulder, like Neal and Atkinson do. They have stopped those sort of goals without touching the ball. Yet stats would claim Dieng and Mantom covered more yards in the same situation.
