Get the Deegan irony, but still don't understand why there's a thread on here every time someone gets a red card questioning whether he's let us down / let the team down / should ever play for us again. Red cards are part and parcel of football - we all know it's a pansy's game compared to Rugby but if a bit of physical contact offends you that much, go and watch the ballet.

It's a bit like kids and chicken Pox. If you put all the kids in one room then they all get it together. Same here, doing the Timlin stuff here keeps the Match reports thread a bit positive.

With Deegan the risk of a red seems a common occurence, early yellow and nervous remainder of game. I don't remember having that worry with Timlin and that is the difference, this was a one off.

I don't mind Deegan but you need to have a word with yourself if you think Timlin is the liability Deegan can be

100% agree with this.

That sums it up well. I think last nights red was more about his frustration and anger at not being in the starting eleven again, and he carried that onto the field.

Timlin also saw red in that playoff game v Stevenage after the clash of heads, hideous injury:winking:

Timlin was an idiot but he brings so much to the side with his ability on the ball and drive from midfield. He was instrumental in us being in this division in the first place.

Most of you see Deegan more frequently than I do but in the eight or nine times I've seen him I've never seen that he brings a lot to the party other than workrate. Deegan also always looks like he's on the verge of getting sent off so it is always in the back of your mind watching him.

That said, maybe I've missed his best games.

I think he brings more than that.

If we look at the recent matches, the ones where we have been over-run in the first 35/40 minutes, he hasn't started and the ones we have looked solid and controlled the game, he has.

Timlin is a different player.

Neither should be chastised for being sent off. I'd rather see commitment, with the odd bit of recklessness, than a half-hearted performance where we all stay on the pitch.

I'd take the risk of the odd red, if it meant we were up for the battle.

You certainly watch different matches to me. There have been many, many times that Timlin has put in the wincing tackles and when already on a yellow. He is committed but he is definitely not a thinker at times but gets away with it. Some players do. Rarely will you see a more consistent and blatant fouler than AB. He pulls shirts, wrestles, puts players in a half nelson and still the officials miss it.

Timlin needs to use his loaf. Deegan, and I like his game, is half a yard short of the necessary pace and most of his fouls come when a player is getting away from him.

That's a really good point about Deegan's fouling.

His strengths are holding the line in front of the back four. Closing down. Winning the ball back and distributing short, mostly.

He gets caught out when we are further up the pitch and he gets exposed and feels he needs to foul to break the play up.

Still take him over anyone for that role, though.

They don't even wear shorts. They are the real hard men.

Don't get me wrong,I like Timlin but must point out one thing here.By all accounts Timlin fully deserved his red card last night whereas v Coventry Deegan palpably did NOT -a less than pathetic referee would have awarded 1 yellow at most.

Liability as usual.

This Timlin? Yes he got it wrong last night but liability? I can't believe the pathetic stupid crap I'm reading on here.
