everytime i have an opinion it's either wrong.. or not allowed, especially by Einstein who know's nothing about anything.. if he lock's threads about billy paynter that the whole board contributed to..

I reckon that if I try really, really hard, I could turn this into a REAL FANS debate. They're always fun.

IMO it is wrong to boo and slag the team or individuals for being beaten by a vastly superior team. Do you honestly think the players turn up to listen to witless insults and boos? And do you honestly think they deliberately play badly?

If you do you are sadly mistaken, however you are entitled to your opinion however wrong you are. I will also defend your right to say however wrong I know you to be.
CanveyShrimper, I admire your optimism and restraint, however history shows that CS Fisherman is not one to be swayed by constructive argument and debate.

Applying some of his own logic, I'd suggest that the most effective method would be to boo every post he makes, call him a **** and then sit back to watch his performance improve. After all, you'd only be offering an opinion?

You are right of course SBH, I am a glass is half full person rather than half empty. So a good idea, from now on I shall boo every post by CS J.

I dont like booing anytime, however if a player or the team is truly awful Id accept it.

Paynter on Saturday had a decent first half but was still booed.

This is wrong, people are turning him into a scapegoat and booing just to take frustrations out on him when the whole team were playing bad, not because he was playing badly at that time.

Quote[/b] (Fish @ Sep. 26 2006,14:19)]I don't see how booing on the day helps anyone. That doesn't mean to say people don't have the right to. Players don't turn up to to be insulted and booed (correct); fans don't turn up to see us lose (of course not); I don't turn up to listen to people slate players having a bad day - it ruins my enjoyment and appreciation of the game. Don't I, as a paying fan, have the right to be able to appreciate the game, and derive enjoyment from being able to see good football played by a good team, even if it's not Southend? CSJ, your 'right' to slate the players interferes with other people's 'right' to enjoy the game.

I'm captain of a sports team myself, and I know bloody well that if I turned round to a team mate a said 'you're sh!t' (rather than tell him how to improve, or encourage him to get better out of him) I could rightly expect to be told to f%&k off. Criticism only comes in two sorts, constructive and its' opposite.

Many people have posted on here that we should remmber that the core of this team was at the wrong end of League 2 2 years ago. On that basis we should applaud the players efforts, even when they fall (painfully) short, as they did on Sunday. I agree in principle.

However, there are players who were signed over the summer, who can't be painted with the same 'they've been playing at a lower standard' brush. Of those players, one has stood out as not good enough so far, and that one player is Billy Paynter. I'm not going to sit here and say he'll turn out to be another Kevin Maher, but let's give the poor sod a chance. However, let's also remember that he was bought as a Championship player, from another Championship club, and we've committed to him for 3 years. Therefore, if we are frustrated at the performance of individual players, he's an obvious target at the moment.

That doesn't mean that slating him helps. When he was cheered off the pitch on national TV on Sunday, I could not blame him for thinking 'f%&k them then'.

That's why its important to get behind the team. If we do, that's when nights like the Norwich game happen. CSJ, it's not your opinion that's wrong - Paynter et al were sh!t on Sunday (compared to Cardiff) - it's what you do with that opinion to help change the situation that's wrong.
Good point, well written.

J

I think you might need to lower your expectations a little this season. If you think we have a squad capable of doing anything better than a lower mid table finish you are living on another planet.

i.e. we will lose more than win.

Everyone needs to be realistic!

CSJ expects us to finish in the top four this season..

Anything less is an underachievement.

I kid you not.

Not sure how I missed this thread yesterday, but I will answer it now.

I have locked ONE of your threads in the last ten days so please do not give me or anyone else that drivel.  That thread turned into a slanging match and was absolutely nothing to do with Billy Paynter.  It was just a thread full of expletives aimed in all directions and BP hadn't even been mentioned in the previous 10 or so posts!

Nobody said your opinions were wrong, whether I agree with them is a completely different matter.  There has also been no censorship on your opinion either.  So please, thinking before you type would be a really good idea before accusations are posted.  Maybe one day you will post something that everyone agrees with, and that will be a day to remember with fondness.

I also find it highly amusing that I "know nothing, about anything".   So please, feel free to PM me with your comments for such solid foundations for that observation.

But now, back on topic.

canveyshrimper, best post of yesterday and I missed it.  I cannot disagree with a word of it.  Hopefully this season we will survive and it is looking more than likely that we will finish just above the danger zone.  Maybe that will lower the expectations for next year and maybe 10 games in we will not have so many issues with a 'UNITED FRONT' for SUFC.

I can only laugh at you. Please stop attention seeking and get back on topic. If somebody wants to discuss you then that is reasonable in my opinion and hence people would discuss that in the PUB. The thread was not rude or offensive towards you and it was most certainly not full of expletives like the BP thread. I offered you the chance to PM me with your concerns, but as usual you want to air them in public. Afraid not matey.

Agree/Disagree, whatever you want to do to this thread, but THIS THREAD WILL STAY ON TOPIC.

I'm not sure we could fit him in out tiny ground tbh. I suppose we could plonk him at the empty north end, and charge people £50 a game to sit on his ego.
