Tilson Out!

I have to say the Greens wasn't that bad today one or two shouts but it was such a hot day and those that did pay £16 may well feel a bit ****ed off.

I seem to be in a minority of one but I thought Pettefer was poor. If you're asked to play wide right then you do even if you don't want to. Part of Jupp's very poor display was that when he got the ball he had no one to pass to as Pettefer was roaming around the centre of midfield. If I was Tily I'd have substituted him at half time.
Agree with virtually everything else. Barratt must be gutted not to have come on as Prior and Edwards were pretty dire and Hunt is too much like Maher. You can't play 2 defesive minded midfielders and expect a lot of goal action. I see the News of the World gave everyone 5 with the exception of Maher and Edwards 6 and Gower 7. I presume Bentley was injured as he wasn't on the bench.

Yeah, I agree with Pettefer. And funnily enough, I think that's what happened Husbands came on. He kept rifting infield. I don't think Bentley is 100% fit yet, but we need him back!

Also thought we missed Drewe, as without him, we have no hussle up-front. He'd be a right nuisance.

Not a great performance today like everyone has said but i think that we as fans didnt play our part.

The moaning was terrible and after 20 mins a guy jumped up and shouted some abuse at Tilly. Utter pr*ck.

I was so incensed by the lack of atmosphere in the ground today i called the club after the game and to my suprise got a phone call back from Ron Martin.

Basically he wants there to be an atmosphere in the ground and wants ideas of how to create it. We all know the North Bank is a non starter but i suggested either a designated area of the ground other than the South Lower or trialing song sheets on every seat. Anyway i said i would speak to him again next week and would appreciate any suggestions.

agree with most of what has been said on here, midfield selection didn't seem to make sense from the stands and there's a lack of understanding in the defence (which to be fair can't be too surprising with summer signings and Nicolau's lack of experience).

to those who were slagging Nicky after the second goal- yes he got skinned, but I thought it was a bit rich of Prior to be having a go after he and Edwards failed to pick up a lone runner between them. Defence seemed to improve second half at least, and Tes looked dangerous before he went a bit psycho. Looked like an awful tackle from the South Upper, straight red seemed fair enough.

i suppose we'll have to settle for promotion with only 45 straight wins.

I have to say that the Midfield and Defence didn't looked at all in the same team. Every time a Cheltenham hoof came over our defender would get a head on it and our Midfielders were too slow to pick it up. What is the point of Maher, if only Jay Smith didn't get injured and Bentley. Bentley Smith midfield would've won us the game IMO.

Sorry if i've missed it, but why on earth wasn't Corbett involved!?

Secondly, was I the only one who thought Cheltenham looked a hell of a lot fresher than us? The decision to play friendlies every forty eight hours looks as if it's backfiring.

Tell him to kick all the pr*cks out so we only have people that care about the team in the ground. What he loses in the short term financially he'll gain in the long term.

Anyone got any proper suggestions ?

Corbett didnt look to impressive in pre-season so IMO it was no suprise that he was not on the bench. but where was bentley?

I think we played too many friendlys too, 7 is quite alot especally in such a small period of time when we only have a squad off 22 players.

Also maybe the players done too much fitness work in training during pre-season and not enough tactical etc work.

I have no intention of reading the rest of this thread but I saw the goals on Sky earlier and no way was that a sending off. He took the ball clean, if the opposition player gets in the way then f**king tough. The ref got it very wrong.

Seb, it that had been a tackle the other way around we'd have all been baying for red.

Whether we like it or not a two footed tackle studs up is now a straight red. He doesn't even have to touch the player to go.

Have to disagree, yes he got the ball but it was reckless and stupid. The tackle was dangerous and he deserved to go. I've seen worse tackles and it wasn't particularly high but as a referee myself its a red-card offence for me.

I don't disagree with you at all on this, but what I don't understand was why Bramble did this?.

As I said in another thread, it was totally unlike him! I didn't see the incident myself so I can't be judgemental or offer my own opinion, but Bramble is definitely not a dirty player!

I think this is his first STRAIGHT red and believe Tilson will back Bramble to the full if he has any doubts about the referee's decision whether the RED stands or not.

I think the problem is that people are paying some of the highest entrance fees in this division. How many times are we likely to get our £16.50's worth this season ? 5 maybe!! If the teams give 100% and loses you cant say fairer than that. But when they just go through the motions and dont bother turning up why should we cheer? If you were that bad at your own job you would expect a bollocking. Why should the team be different? I will always encourage the team when they warrant it. The same as i will be critical when its warranted. I will not put up with anything less than 100%. They got a boo from me at the end of the game from me beacause they deserved it. I did not slate them all game. Until the team give 100% and more importantly value for money , expect more booing and low crowds. Thats not fickle thats just disgruntled short changed fans.

The abuse he hurled at one of the ball boys was disgusting and not what i expected from one of the senior pros at the club.

No one in east red was impressed by it.
f**king get over it you plum

Well, here are my brief thoughts on Saturday, FWIW:

Bright spots:
Wayne Gray. Pacey, sharp, always looking for the ball. Will be a handful this season.
Spencer Prior. Showed lots of class, will be brilliant once he links up well with someone in the centre of the park.
Carl Pettefer - energetic, skilful got stuck in.

Neither good nor bad:
Bart Griemink - good distribution, stood up well to a one-on-one chance and saved it, not at fault for either goal IMHO.
Kevin Maher - generally solid, some excellent distribution. Not helped by a diabolical performance by Lewis Hunt

Low points:
Gower - hesitant in front of goal, lacked sharpness with the ball. Seemed unwilling / unable to take on & beat his man on the outside.
Nicolau - too often beaten, unwilling to stick the boot in and tackle. Got to get stuck in more.
Edwards - at fault for, probably, both goals. An inauspicious home-coming.
Jupp - sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. Gave possession away perhaps a dozen times on the flank.
Hunt - I will say this again until I am blue in the face: this boy is NOT a central midfielder. Expected the ball to come to him (as it does when he's in defence), too often missing, squandered possession when he had it.
Bramble - looked good for ten minutes, and then promptly launched himself into a two-footed challenge. Clearly hasn't worked on his brain over the summer.
Dudfiled - anonymous. Negligible goal threat.
Tilson - switched to 4-3-3 to try to get a goal back, so took off a midfielder. Took of Pettefer and left Hunt on... why, why, why??
The South Upper - people were already moaning, a full hour into the new season... gordon bennett...

Disappointed at the turn-out... only 5,322 when I'd been hoping for over 6,000. Annoying that we were totally out-thought tactically as well. Cheltenham stuck 7 or 8 behind the ball, then hit us clinically and hard on the break. They passed crisply and retained possession well.

We really missed both Bentley & Drrroooo... we have got to hold up possession much, much better than we did. A big test tomorrow awaits at Lincoln - how will the players respond to, basically, a wholly sub-standard performance?

Must say, there's been an awful lot of moaning on SZ over the weekend as well... can't believe we spent 2 months of the off-season waiting for the general moaning and wailing demonstrated on here over the course of the last 36 hours or so...

Matt
There have been a few threads opened today to ween the doom and gloomers off of the subject... It hasn't worked!

Personally, I feel very upbeat... nothing has changed in the squad or management since Saturday morning, but these people expect us to win every game? I just don't get it!!!

We have 2 games coming up and tomorrow is going to be tough... a draw will suit me on this one and a win at Rochdale which we often treat as a home match these days...
