If you pay any attention to my posts then you'll see I DISAGREE with abusing players while playing as its just pathetic and does nothing for the player or the team.

I wasn't even sitting in the East you 'prat'!

I do and will however vent my anger outside of the stadium and on here.

Today Tilly was shown a lesson in tactics.  Cheltenham got it absolutely spot on, from the playing tactics to the players getting liquid refreshment at any possible minute.  There would be an injury and every Cheltenham player would run for a drink whilst our boys wilted in the heat.  They grabbed a two goal lead and sat back and watched us race around achieving very lttle.

Officials were very poor, Marco of big brother fame was running one line and he pulled Juppy up for offside when there were three Cheltenham defenders keeping him on.  Both teams suffered because of the poor standard.

The sending off was a bad tackle but he got the ball.  The referee was suckered into it by the Cheltenham players starting a ruck.  The classic create agro to create red, again master tacticians.  How Maher got booked for removing the hand of the Cheltenham player from Brambles neck I will never know.

As for Prior giving the ball boy abuse, I can't condone it although understand that Prior was gutted about losing.  When chasing the game things weren't going well and I can only assume the kid wasn't quick enough with the ball.  Unfortunate that he took the wrath and I'm sure there will be an apology.  Prior had spent a lot of time talking to the kids before the game and had a picture with them so he has some heart.  I would rather he showed a little bit of will to win and frustration than not care at all.

At full time, a lot of the fans in the East called Spinner over, and to his credit he came over and aplogised instantly.

Agree with the general consensus on here. Yes, at full time I was gutted, but there's still 45 games to go. The heat must have made it unbearable for the players, and the first goal was crucial. Unfortunately, they got it and we never recovered. Thought Gray did alright, had very little to feed off and made some decent runs. Apart from that, not to many other positives I'm afraid.

Surprised by the lack of response regarding our possible penalty in the first half when Maher seemed to be fouled. I've certainly seen those given...

Hey ho, a decent result Tuesday and we can forget about today. Keep the faith, it was poor performance, but it's not the end of the world...

P.S. I sat in the east for the first time today. And I've never in my entire life been surrounded by a selection of muppets who spout sh*t for so long. It's worse enough watching a poor game, but to have people with brain capacity's no bigger than a boiled potato sitting with you, boy it makes life hard.

(No offence intended to those of you who sit there)

Well he made a gigantic presence in the first half by virtually failing to win any high ball headed in his direction.

Still you've gotta be positive we cannot play like that again this season can we ?

Thought our new/old central defensive partnership were disappointing today, particularly Edwards. We'll need to be a lot more organised than that.

Still, this time last year we were talking promotion after a 2-0 win and look what happened. Let's hope we havea polar opposite this time.....

Agreed otherwise I wouldn't be able to 'bear' it

I think I witnessed the team go truly backwards today. The only player that emerged with any overall credit was Gower on his first half performance - but he faded badly in the second. Tes tried hard when he came on and could have turned things around if others would have moved for him.

The game realised my worst fears from the second half of the Brighton friendly. When they brought on Knight and a quick left winger our defence was cut through very easily. Okay Prior and Edwards have experience but pace is a problem with them, Jupp and Nicolau. Nicolau was truly awful vs. Brighton and was as bad today. Hunt is out of position in midfield and should be in the centre of defence - bold decision for Mr Tilson this one - where he can provide pace. Gray looked lethargic and never put any defender he was up against under pressure. Dudfield never had any support.

We were completely disjointed and never once looked like being able to take the ball from front to back. Hoofing it from anywhere was always going to be the unproductive result - and that happened a plenty.

The heat was the same for both teams so that's no excuse. Tilson has got his work cut out to make an attacking and cohesive unit out of this team on today's evidence - and scoring looks like a major problem for the rest of the season.

Let's hope we really can't be this bad again. Onwards and upwards.

Bit harsh there , i though that Pettefer was man of the match by a mile and was disappointed to see him taken off.

Think yourselves lucky. It was bad enough watching but I also had Leeboy behind me going on about how Drewe would have made a difference today.

Too many people performing below par today. Not least of which (pauses for deep breath) was super Kevin Maher (there I've said it).

Not only would Darryl have prevented both those goals but he would have then raced 80 yards down the pitch before launching an unstoppable shot.

No blame to the keeper for either. Impressed with Gray. Hunt is NOT a fookin midfielder. The back four each had an absolute shocker. Still the only way is up.

On today's performance, which is slightly unfair, the sooner either Smith or Bentley get 100% fit the better.

BTW in a shameless plug me and SZFC are off to Pikeyland tomorrow in the first of our own pre-season friendlies. Feel free to come along and give us your support - KO 10.30am. Directions - Approaching Waterside roundabout from Benfleet Station - straight over this roundabout, take the first available exit at the second roundabout * (i.e. not towards the Supermarket), turn right at the next roundabout and the entrance is about 100yards on the left but it is not clearly marked.

Granted he didn't do anything spectacular but his positioning and best of all his strength on the ball shows lots of promise.

He did poorly with that effort in the second half and should have done better, but other than that i thought he looked good. He held the ball up and layed it off well.

May i add my view's?
1) Dissapointed with our peformance today.
Petts played really well and that's about it!
2) Cheltenham were a solid team with some very fast players.
3) Bar in the West stand need to get their act together!
4) I hope i never hear the abuse that i heard today. It's an absolute disgrace that so called 'fans' can sit there and call players the 'c' word.

How the hell are we suppose to do well with that sort of behaviour? To all the foul mouthed to**ers in block w.......... Find another club to 'support'!
TO HELP NOT TO HINDER!
Ever heard of it?

Can only try not to repeat what was said earlier BUT:
The back line were truly shocking, each one as a bad as each other & as for taking it out on a ballboy just because you can't get your own act together-tut,tut.
Hunt out of position
Maher struggled
Pettefer - best of a poor display
Gower-ok 1st half
Gray-anonymous
Dudfield-ditto etc etc
Basically out thought in tactical department & out fought in the combat department.
Trying to be positive in my own outlook but could not see anything different from last season that would not suggest another struggle.

Fully agree with the slamming of the defence. I'm sorry, but I expect a lot more from Prior and Edwards. They were not DIABOLICAL, but they were very off the pace. That's what scares me about facing teams with a **** quick forward line. But, I take heart from the fact that I know they can do so much better. Jupp wasn't too much of a problem for me today, apart from when he drifts up too far and leaves a huge gap on Cheltenham's right flank. I think Nicolau is a class act, today was just an off day, but he was SERIOUSLY at fault for the 2nd goal. If he was slower than their number 7, he can't really help it, but he cannot keep backing off and inviting him to run at him like he di today. He should have tackled him when he had the chance.

Hunt should not be playing in midfield. Having 2 defensive midfielders in the centre is a liability. There's no flair or creativity. I pray for Bentley to be 100% fit for the next match.

Gray looked good, he ran about and made a nuisance of himself. He didn't do THAT much, but what he did do, he did well. Apart from that diabolical excuse for a shot in the 2nd half, of course. One thing I like about him is they way he runs along the opposition's line of defence until the ball is played forward, then he runs forward onto the ball, staying onside and still beating the defence. Not many teams will be able to cope with that in this division. I thought Cheltenham's defence were very strong. Most other defences would have been skinne by Gray today. Dudfield was VERY disappointing, especially ater what he said to me at MTBD about being so fired up for the first game. I think he's gonna be our no1 goal supplier this season, but today, he did sweet FA, really.

Husbands looked very good. My only worry is that he kept drifting infield, off the wing too often, so Edwards and Jupp had no option but to hoof it upfield, as Hubby wasn't making enough runs down the line. He either needs to improve that, or he'll have to be used up front.

Anyway, it's only the first game, as everyone has already said. The good thing is, I know that every single player who had a bad game today can do a lot better. Things can only move forwards

James

We played it to the defence and then we hoofed it! No Drewe, 5ft 8 midgets and we still hoof it, tactical b******s.
